Gothic II: Gold Classic

Gothic II: Gold Classic

Compared to Gothic 1, combat in Gothic 2 sucks.
Controls are terrible. If you use Gothic 1 combat controlls, your character will start blocking once you hold action key and S. However, he will block even if you don`t hold it and decide to move backwards right after an attack. Say goodbye to dodging animals. If you use Gothic 2 combat controls, this problem dissapears and you will dodge after the attack. However, for some reason, using Gothic 2 combat controls prevents you from chaining side attacks. (And let`s not even mention that any humanoid with a sword will one-shot you in the begining so you stuck fighting rats).

Is there a way to have proper Gothic 1 combat controls or enable chaining side attacks with Gothic 2 combat controls?

You must have some kind of bug or inproperly setup controls. Gothic 1 controls in GII are fine. I can always block and dodge reliably.

Fixed in Union starting from version 1.0i.

Union[worldofplayers.ru] is the latest community patch that allows Gothic 1/2/NOTR to run on modern machines while fixing bugs and providing texture upgrades.

The versions "i" fixes the combat bug you are experiencing. If you decide to use Union the easiest route is to download the two autonomous installers. Then apply first the player kit and then the system pack over a fresh install of Gothic II.

If you'd like to play Gothic II Vanilla (I recommend it) download this file[drive.google.com] and extract the .vdf file into your Gothic II/Data directory before installing Union. That will remove the Night of the Raven expansion and the ridiculous difficulty ratio it imposes. Only the hardcore fanbois prefer that.
Ok, Thanks mate.

Be careful when removing the Night of the Raven expansion, because you don't want to do that anyway. It would remove a lot of content that the expansion brings. The difficulty is normal and fine for new people, just have to get used to some key things, but only few people exaggerate it.
