Gothic 2 has this every in reverse. It's pretty playable, but you know fom the very beggining, on the first dialoque that main point of the game is kill all dragons(original)
Gothic 3 has big open world, pretty playable after installing community patches.
Risen is definitely my best game of the series. Just nice game.
All game above has freaking beautiful soundtrack by Kai Rosenkanz, he did VERY good.
Risen 2 - I beat whole game but still... nah...
I could not finish Risen 3, i gave up after few hours of playing.
Gothic has fps limit (can be undone with user made patch). It has worst controls in the entire series and you will either laugh your ass off while trying to get past the first gate or curse at the game and stop playing. Cannot really comment on anything else since both times I tried to play, I stopped playing due to the controls...
Gothic II (Gold) improved on the controls part and it is actually enjoyable to play if you change the vanilla controls to your liking. Some don't like the fight system, but personally I find it enjoyable with both games. Game also has lots of themes such as pirates and dragons. You also get to visit many places again from the first game but this time affected by the things you've done in the first game. This game I was able to finish many many times and out of the three I will pick this as the best one.
Gothic 3 is unfinished game. Thank JoWood for forcing them to release the game out as it was. Piranha Bytes made like one patch and then left to work on Risen. Game was taken over by modders and the little good there is now, is mostly thanks to these people. Despite this, it's still pretty horrendous game in general. Some small good things there are, yes but most of the time you will asking yourself "what it could have been?" If I have to pick good things, the world is huge and has nice variation and now you can actually interract with most of the orcs that wasn't possible previously. Biggest problem I personally have always had, has been the fighting system. If they have fixed this with the recent Community Patches, I might get back to this game and actually try to finish it...
Arcania series I do not know. They are still related to the universe of Gothic.
