Valley of mines or go through the portal?

I'm at a point in the game where I have explored every single area and cleared out most of the quests. Now i can either go through the portal to the lost city or go back to the valley of the mines.

Is there an order I should follow or can I go to either area back and fourth?

You might as well go through the portal and get the expansion area out of the way first if you're strong enough. You'll have to finish it either way in order to advance the main storyline at some point.

You can go back and forth whenever you'd like.

I didn't know this was part of the expansion since it's my first time playing! I just had a quick wikipedia run at the expansion page and it's quite surprising the amount of content I just took for granted thinking it was in the "vanilla" game.

If you finish the raven storyline then If i were you I would throw away the sword that you get at the end because it's ridicolously broken and can pretty much one hit anything around and it ruins the fun
