How am I supposed to get into the Valley of the Mines without Console Commands? The Orcs are Impossible
Hey guys, so was taking my time to build my character and finally completed chapter 1. Wanted to go into the Valley of the Mines next as, not only is that where the next main mission is, but 99% of the sidequests I have left require something from there.

Only, I can't cause of those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ orcs. I only have the militia armor (heard the next big set is in the Valley), meaning one of those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ can kill me in two hits. And unlike Gothic 1, where you could at least outrun everything, these guys swamp you too quickly.

So yeah, I really don't want to have to use console commands, but what other way is there of getting strong enough to beat the orcs? I really don't get why they couldn't have just added a defense skill or even a shield that you could at least invest points in to negate enemy damage.

As suggested by an NPC, you're supposed to run past the orcs and enter the castle. You'll find a large beam on one of the 4 sides of the castle to run onto. Doing that, you'll enter the castle and the orcs won't be able to follow you.

Orcs are considered endgame enemies so u as a new player have to avoid fighting them in large numbers until chapter 4.
I dont know what your lvl etc but you should use potions of speed or transformation scrolls(wolf, bloodfly etc) to bypass some areas.

But I can't outrun them, and as far as I can see, there's no speed stat to level-up.

Ah copy, well, guess I'm gonna have to look up where to get speed potions.

Speed potions are very useful in situations like that, but not necessary. Save. Find the beam leading up to the castle. Reload. Run to the beam up to the castle. The orcs are not faster than you but you just feel overwhelmed by their numbers. That's the kick of this part of the game. It may take a few tries but as soon as you jump onto that beam, you're safe.

I disagree man, the biggest difference between this and Gothic 1 is that you can't outrun most enemies. Unless, my version is bugged, everything but humans can catch up to me quite easily.

You are not supposed nor expected to fight orcs at this stage, you run from them instead.
I'll do some blunt backseating but instead of going through the orcs, there is a safer passage that will lead you into VoM, just look closely.

If people tell you to run away they mean you have to avoid them at your level. You cant outrun them without tricks or potions but the game gives you lots of things to get around them like tranform spells.

So the gist is you have to move carefully through the valley and dont get attention at all.

You could also just go to Jharenkar first and to the Valley later. Then you are much stronger and orcs arent that problematic anymore.

I already used console commands to generate speed potions since I could only find 1 person who sold a single 1.

I'm playing Gold not NOTR, so no Jharenkar.

The problem with relying on transformation scrolls is only a finite amount were sold by any given vendor, and the sheer amount of orc encounters in the Valley means you're better off just using console commands.

I dont understand. Gold is with NOTR. Do you mean classic? In classic orcs are 8 times easier than in Gold which means you can easily beat them in chapter 2.

Well man, I'm not as badass as you, so they're impossible to kill at this point outside of cheesing.

Alright, I assume you are still in the pass and not in front of the castle right?

There's a path to the left that lets you skip all the orc's guarding the pass, no running required. It's fairly close after the loading screen, so just check the area there.

As general advice for chapter 2, you don't have to fight any orcs until you actually go out of your way to do so, you are very much supposed to sneak around them.

Youre supposed to brew them yourself. Ignaz can teach you how to make them.

I already beat Chapter 2 and am on Chapter 3. I did find the pass, but it's not like it mattered since one of the Mines was located behind a giant orc trail. Like I said, I just spawned potions of speed and ran past them.
