Gothic II: Gold Classic

How long does it take to become a damn mage?!
These water mage ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Vatras just wont let me join the ring of water despite me having made great progress in the missing people case (killed Dexter) and solving the bandit weapons merchant thing.

I have been sitting on my LP for SEVEN levels now in the hopes of bumping up my mage skills but it's just not happening.

I am close to just biting the bullet and becoming a regular melee fighter just like in Gothic 1...seriously, what a bunch of crap.

You can become mage at moment you have 1.3k gold or almsot instantly with NoTR .- as Vatras + Lares offer shortcut to join any faction. Only thing you need is buy sheep and dontate 1k gold or get the Innos statue as easier much cheaper

Thats for join Fire mages/monastery though.

On other hand the way NoTR is set it is not very optimal rush for it until you explore and do most/all possible "joining faction" quests etc but its the choice

For join ring of water and eventually Water mages (=not becoming water mage but they cna teach you water spells) you need be at least in chapter 2 and solve missing people quest.

To become a mage you need to join monastery (fire mages). Joining the ring of water means you will be able to get to the new land and get a content from Night of the Raven addon. You will join the ring of water as a Fire Mage/Novice, militia and mercenary. It is a "additional" guild. Additional meaning it's not a default guild like fire mage, militia and mercenary but you need to join them to by able to progress.

You cannot become a Water Mage in Gothic II. Ring of Water is just a secret group of people helping the mages, a side guild.

You can only become a Fire Mage in the Monastery.

I assume you don't have a guild yet, that's probably why you can't progress into the ring despite killing Dexter and exposing weapons merchant. You need a guild. If you want to be a mage, go to the Monastery.
BTW - 3 answers at the same time :D

Mage is only through the monastery.

Yeah, just as my frustration reached a boiling point I found the monastery.

Still I was led on for like 10 levels with this side faction that promised I could join, very poorly implemented in my eyes.
I was very underpowered for most of those 10 levels due to not spending my points and the quests just kept coming and coming...beh

I am currently doing the firestuff, gotta find a runestone now.

You get info about becoming mage easily in Korinis / obviously from fire mages (Ulf, Daron)

I do not think anything exactly suggest Ring of water is standalone faction - in opposite both Vatras and Lares directs you to pick one of three major factions. Also nothing you can get suggest you could become water mage directly (in particular if you played G1 and say hi to Saturas:p

I was certainly left with that impression, just finished up G1 last week too. In fact I already took care of all the water mage stuff like the fragments and the teleporter, everything really.

So, yeah, I kind of felt like I was being led on. There was one fire mage I found who wanted me to find a statue, I found the statue but he doesn't want it so...yeah.

Just got unlucky I guess. At least once I get to learn rune magic I can finally spend my 70LP
I mean Vatras says that you need talk with Lord Hagen before and many NPCs tell you what are the options to get to Lord Hagen (Fire mage, Mercenary, Militia) so it's not a poor implementation.

Thanks for jester reward. Not my problem you can not listen what NPCs talk to you :). I know it's hard.

You need to bring the statue to the Monastery, not Daron.
