Gothic II: Gold Classic

Playing differently?
Well playing the first time through, and noticed people say that later chapters increase the xp for quests and such, so completing a quest in chapter 1 gives 50xp, but might give 100 exp in chapter 2, something like that. Also to save up pickpocketing until last chapter for max xp gain.

So is it better to skip as many quests as possible early on and do them later for more xp. I assume you'll need to do the apprentices, join clan, proceed to later chapters. but are there any normal early "fetch this" type quests that disappear after chapter 1, or 2, etc. Or areas you can't access later.

Not sure about quests but pickpocketing later in the game is more rewarding

yea i was just thinking about it doing some walkthroughs and quests and realized. mmm maybe i should ignore any non-story quests and just get to later chapters asap and then do the basic fetch quests. But since its my first time not sure what quests might disappear later. So for now the first time, just doing all i can to get familar with the quests, game, items, etc. Made some mistakes sure, but will do that the first time. Selling items that are for quests later, picking up skinning as apprentice and not knowing that its better to head out and get additional skinning abilties which i didn't know about at the farms (stingers, teeth, etc). Trying out summoning and transformation scrolls, realizing that half of them are too weak, while the other half are too strong lol. Ways around spending money such as stealing armor instead of buying it early.

But thats learning, playing through again you of course can get vastly better early, saving more money. Heck, just praying and sacrificing health for more gold, then donating 1000 gold to the mage for boosts. wow, if i only knew that right at the start.

You cannot be Jack of all trades and be effective here. You should have a general idea like im going to play as a hunter or pure mage or melee etc

Quest rewards stay the same. Xp reward for stealing increases. But if you explore a lot and do most of the side quest, you will end up having a lot lp anyway later in game. Most of the side quest are made to augment the main story, doing them later would make it boring imo.

The XP for most of the quests are fixed and not chapter-depending.

Only a few quests give you more XP in later chapters. But if you are too late, the quest will be failed.

So some quests you can only do in chapter 1 and 2. Some quests you can do in chapter 2 and 3 or 1, 2 and 3. And Some quests you can do until chapter 5. But if you are too late you will fail them.

Afaik a complete list for the rare chapter-depending quests is only available in german:

But only in vanilla version you get more XP for pickpocketing in later chapters of the game.

In the steam version you get more XP the more you have pickpocket no matter what chapter it is.

yes it seems gold changes mechanics, so regular game its based on chapter, and in gold its based on number of people. Also what about bows, someone said use dex only for damage that bow skill only changes chance to hit at range/moving targets. I thought it also increased attack speed but maybe thats only melee weapon attacks.

Damage formula for ranged attacks: Base Damage + Dexterity - Resistance

Bow skill indeed only raises the range, but, like in the case of melee, after 30% and 60% you will shoot faster as well. The only difference is that increasing accuracy beyond 100% actually increases your range, while with melee >100% crit chance has no effect at all, because at 100% every attack is a critical strike.

In the Gold Edition pickpocketing XP increase scales with how many NPCs you pickpocketed. At first it raises fast (+10 XP each time you pickpocket someone), but then it slows down.

Some quests indeed give more XP if you do them later on, but it's rather pointless really to do them later. They give more XP later only, because you will need more XP to raise level, therefore the amount given, if you do them later is rather negligible.

Edit: However time limit does exist for some quest. Canthar's Favor must be done before Chapter 3 and within some days after you acquired the quest.
