Can't Start Ornament Quest

So I discovered the portal near town and got the key for the one that goes to where the Water Mages are trying to open the portal that leads to Raven over the mountains. Lares only has training option and Vatras just has the usual convo options (bless me, heal me, train me, etc.), although he previously gave me a letter for Saturas. However, Saturas only asked me to fetch Riordan, he doesn't ask for the letter...
Hmmmm....maybe I should try Nefarious (love the name) again, but I think he just said they were working on opening the big portal I believe. Am I bugged or merely confused?
BTW, I think I had a convo option with Lares some time ago to take an ornament to Vatras, but avoided it because I had no idea what that was at that time. That dialog option isn't there any longer, but I don't remember doing that--maybe I did though....to get the letter for Saturas (?)

I found out what was going on and also a solution. Apparently it is a known bug that if you ask Lares to take you to the Landowner, he will not later go with you to Vatras and give you the first fragment of the Ornament for the portal. I just happened to find a fix for this that does not involve using the console. I was in conversation with Lares and then:
1. Hit the B key to bring up the character screen (I have been using C)
2. Type "lares" without the quotation marks--I used all lower case because that is how it was shown in what I found.
3. Close the character screen.
If he has the fragment, it will then show up in your inventory. Looks very much like a ring...

This worked for me and I was able to start the quest by speaking to Saturas. Hope it may help others...

yea its a bug, u should never tell lares to take you to farm
