Chapter 4 main quest issue (spoilers)
I'm in chapter 4 now, hunting the dragons in the valley of the mines, and I've killed the one in the swamp after talking to it with the amulet equipped. The guy who tells you where to find the dragons said to look in some place south of the volcano (stone dragon I guess), but since I don't know where the place is that he's talking about or how to get there, I was exploring in the vicinity of the volcano and stumbled across the dragon there, so I figured I'd try to kill it while I was there.

I managed to kill it with some heavy cheesing, but it wouldn't speak to me beforehand. I was wearing the amulet of Innos, it was charged, and I approached the dragon with my weapon stowed, and it just attacked me on sight. I even reloaded a few times to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong, but the same thing happened every time.

The dialogues with Xardas and the other mage guy seemed to suggest that I needed to talk to all of the dragons before killing them or it wouldn't count, or something to that effect. I'm just wondering if this is intended behavior for the volcano dragon. Is it possible to speak to it or is it always hostile? Do you need to take on the dragons in a specific order? Does killing one without speaking to it or killing them out of order break anything? I'm wary of progressing any further until I'm sure I haven't screwed something up, so any insight into this is appreciated.

Edit: I'll just add that I was able to loot the heart, scales, and blood from the volcano dragon after killing it, the amulet had been depleted again, and I was able to recharge it at an alchemy bench again. In case any of that matters.

You can speak to every dragon if you have charged Innos amulet, to charge it you need heart of the dragon and it discharges after talking. There is no order of killing the dragons and you don't need to listen to their crap, it is just for extra bits of story and every dragon have somehting to tell

Okay, thanks for the replies. I had definitely recharged the amulet at an alchemy bench after the swamp dragon, but when I reloaded and checked again, I saw that it wasn't charged for some reason. The only thing I can think of is that I had to reload a save after dying or messing something up after I had recharged it, and forgot to recharge it again after reloading.

I do so much reloading in this game, it's hard to keep straight the things I've done in between reloads sometimes. Anyway, I did the dragon again with a charged amulet this time and talked to him. Doesn't seem like I was missing much, but at least now I know.
