Start GothicStarter instead of the game

Is there any way to launch the Gothic Starter instead the game just like Gothic 1 does through steam? I'm trying to run Gothic with mods on Linux and I can't get the starter to run with WINE even with all the patches, starting it through steam is the only way I can start Gothic

Rename Gothic2.exe to Gothicwhatever.exe
Rename GothicStarter.exe to Gothic2.exe
Launch the game through steam
Rename the files back to normal while having starter opened.
Launch the selected game

So will this count steam hours, while having starter opened while playing mods?

I strictly recommend to backup the .exe files in your system folder before beginning.

1. Download Notepad++ and Hex Editor Plugin from GitHub
2. Open GothicStarter.exe in Notepad++, go to "Advanced->Hex Editor->View in Hex"
3. Search for the line where it links to the "Gothic2.exe" and change it to anything you wish like "Gothicx.exe"
4. Rename your "Gothic2.exe" to the name you linked to in the Hex Editor, like "Gothicx.exe"
5. Rename your "GothicStarter.exe" to "Gothic2.exe"
6 Start via Steam, everything shoud work as intended

note: if you use GD3D11 it will complain about the wrong checksum of your "Gothic2.exe" but will start nevertheless. I'm looking for a workaround to this too.

"C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Gothic II\system\GothicStarter.exe" %command%

Where "C:\......" is path to GothicStarter.exe file in your system.
