Gothic 3

Gothic 3

Gothic 3 in 2025? Which patch do i need?
I am leaning on trying to play and possibly stream Gothic 3 in 2025 but i am not sure if i need any extra patches. I tried to run the game fresh off Steam and it seems to run fine but i was wondering if there's any extra patches that could help improve the game.

Mods i am not strictly against but anything that improves quality of life would be nice to know about.

Thank you in advance!

This points to the community patch 1.75 which from what i have read is now integrated in the steam version. Do i still need to install it?
I just started playing a few days ago, and the 1.75.14 Community Patch is not part of the Steam installation. You'll have to add it separately. It's an exe file and you can find it here...

Runs great by the way although if you play with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 the on-screen prompts for bodies an equipment that are lying on the ground are almost too small to be seen. I haven't found any method of increasing the side of the font use nor the color. Thus I've reverted to running the game at 1024 x 768.

I tried installing that and it keeps telling me that "gothic 3 is not found"

Hmm. I dropped the patch exe into the Gothic 3 directory before I ran it.

Yours should look something like this...

Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Gothic 3

Yes i did that kind of naturally (i dropped the patch file into the game directory) but it still gives me the same error (gothic 3 not found installation canceled)

Not sure what i'm doing wrong

Read the aforementioned guide more carefully, please. You have two options to get to version 1.75.14:

1) Applying the separate community patches yourself as per download links within the guide.

2) Opening the beta subscription channel in your Steam games library and choosing the 1.75.14 version there, which should trigger an update. No password needed! Preferably you uninstall the game and choose that beta version before installation of the game.

Either way, some of the separate patches will be beneficial. Such as the mouse-in-inventory fix. And with the beta version Steam screenshots don't work whereas they work if you apply the community patches yourself.

Edit:
Also, carefully read the community patch team's manual in PDF. Where to find it, consult the guide. Only then you know what the two difficulty modes "Alternative Balancing" and "Alternative AI" do.

Ok. So i've tried the steam betas method and it worked fine, thank you.

Can i install the added patches from the guide on top of this now?

I came up to installing PUP patch but then the 1.04 update doesn't seem to work and neither does the updated one. It just won't allow me to install or choose the folder (the select button is greyed out constantly). I don't think i missed a step. But there doesn't seem to be another way?

This is what my menus look now. The game runs and seems to be performing well even without that extra 1.4 update for 1.75 patch. Dunno what it does as there is not a lot of information and the rest is in German
The PUP is optional and controversial (because it's not as tested as the game without it). The guide says you may need the PUP 1.05.10 beta before you can install the Update Pack 1.04. If that doesn't work, avoid the PUP. Don't mod the game to death.
