I actually suspect it might not be a problem with the game though. I mean, up until those few days ago, I've been playing perfectly fine (and I have 1,000+ hours in the game). Microsoft (Windows 10) force-fed an update overnight. The next day my screen was all messed up (long story short: it took several hours to figure out how to get that fixed, but we ended up reinstalling the video driver--probably wasn't even necessary as the fix was an option somewhere). Since then, Helldivers (and only Helldivers) hasn't worked right since. All other games I've tried work fine just as if nothing ever happened. Again, it's only Helldivers... but it's only been happening since the Windows update. I have no idea what's to blame.
Fatal errors sometimes occur when Helldivers tries to merge the data stored in "%APPDATA%\Arrowhead\Helldivers\saves\" with the one in the Steam Cloud and there is a conflict.
The local files which you'd want to overwrite are "helldivers_save.sav" and "helldivers_save_user.sav". Make sure to create backups of any files before you replace them.
Have you tried reverting to the latest drivers before your version, or will that mess up your screen? Sometimes the latest versions of drivers are to blame.
Thanks, that fixed it. GG!
