Thinking of buying, but the game seems a little like Halo.
I looked at the trailer and it really reminded me of Halo, the drop pods, the frigates, the armour on the player, and multiple other things (Also ODSTs are called Hell Jumpers) I thought it was funny one of the player's names was Silva. For those that don't know, Silva was the commanding officer of the ODST's in the battle of Installation 04, where the events of Halo CE took place. Just made me giggle, but I'm sure it's a coincidence. Is it worth the buy? I may get it when my graphics card is done acting up.

Also I'm not a newbie to the Halo franchise, I read most of the books, and played all the games except Halo 4 and 5.

i wont buy a fps game, cause it looks to much as a fps game. "you are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot"...

Stylistically, it takes cues from Halo, Starship Troopers and even a little Warhammer 40k. Gameplaywise, it seems to be a spiritual successor to Alien Swarm.

I don't understand that reasoning, I said I wanted to see if it's worth buying once my graphics card works again, I just put out my opinion. Also this game isnt a FPS its more of a third person, if that's what you meant.

I've been playing Halo since the day CE came out on the original xbox. I've put over 30 hours into Helldivers and not once have I thought "this is kinda like Halo". The two things that it does remind me of are Starship Troopers and Warhammer 40k. Not a bad thing though. It's one of the best co op games I've ever played. Plenty of tense and action packed moments as well as hilarious moments to be had.

This game reminded me of Gears Of War, Starship Troopers, Halo, and a few others that have crossed my mind. The point...it's a great game. We all try to compare things to others, and when we do they're some similarities-but this is its own game.

Yesterday I was like "Babe-I have to deploy alright, I have to protect Super Earth. YOU DON'T KNOW...you just don't know..."

Maybe more like the isometric Halo spin-off...

Halo Spartan Wars:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/277430/

Which I had some fun with but dealt with the usual "Why can't we have the console Halo FPSs on Steam instead of this isometric crap?' whining. I think HSW could've been better (I gave it a positive review in the day) if the devs hadn't given it no post-release support whatsoever, or if it had had procedurally generated levels etc.

I felt like it had potential but it wasn't "carried through" as Arrowhead did with Helldivers. Also, Helldivers didn't have the albatross around its neck of being a spinoff to an FPS mega seller.

He's not saying it plays like Halo, he's saying that the idea of "Helldivers" was taken from Halo, and I fully agree. I mean, they both enter orbitally, they're both special forces, they are both set in the future, they both using cutting edge weaponary and they both go into the most dangerous places and they both have the same name. I'm sure the game is great and I'll likely buy it at some point, but to say that this game was not heavily, and I mean heavily inspired by ODST's from Halo (whether they admit it or not) is just ignorant.

Also everyone insulting the OP for likening the top-down HellDiver to First-person-shooter Halo, nobody seems to realise that the Halo series is far more than just shooters. There's tens of books, one released RTS (and a second in the pipeline), several movies and a full season of a Halo T.V. series also in the making. And then of course the shooters. It's one of the most fully-fleshed out universes, comparable only to Star Wars and Star Trek. The OP was saying that the games have a similar aesthetic (another similarity between the Helldiver's), not that they play similar.

Meh, this has a more Warhammer 40k/Starship Troopers feel than Halo imho.

I highly doubt that Halo invented the concept of drop pods. In fact, a quick google search showed me that on the Halo wikia itself on ODSTs, there is a trivia entry that the ODSTs were heavily inspired by Starship Troopers. Another quick google search showed me that both Starship Troopers and WH40k do in fact have drop pods, and both of those franchises predate Halo by decades. A few other examples off the top of my head are: the Star Wars Old Republic MMO has drop pods, and Battlefield 2142 has drop pods as well (has anyone from this generation even heard of that game?). Though the pods from 2142 of course don't come from space, they're similar in that they're launched from high above, slam into the ground and out pops a trooper.

Linking Helldivers to Halo before anything else is really what's ignorant, considering the Helldivers intro sequence just SCREAMS Starship Troopers, the capes and armor are much more reminiscent of space marines/imperial guard rather than ODSTs or spartans, and... well 90% of the rest of the game continues to scream Starship Troopers.

u wot
none of the characters are named besides your default username
also drop pods and body armour are hardly new ideas, this game is more starship troopers than anything else

Because Halo is original creator of all these concepts. There are many franchises as Crisscross has said that predate Halo with most if not all of these concepts. This is definetly more Warhammer 40,000 and Starship troopers than Halo.

It's an isometric tactical shooter.

gamerr from my perspective and the others here. The armor style as well as a few other things definitely seem quite similar granted it isn't an FPS like our Halo games its more (and like I said its from my pov of vids and such) seems similar to the top down zombies arcade mode from BO2 but and like others have mentioned it takes aspects of other games as well so that's something but id start with the first one from 2015 and if you don't like it then return/dont buy the new one
