I mean, I think it's pretty effective -- every game I've been in, once a beacon drops, someone joins pretty soon thereafter. I just don't know the game gives any way to "prove" that the person joined because the beacon moved your game up on the MP game server list; or if it was just pure coincidence.
Dropping the beacon simply pushes your game up on the multiplayer listing.
It would be nice if a small icon of the SOS was displayed when viewing a public game in the list, a suggestion I made long ago - but I guess theyve had more important things to do.
Never, and I mean NEVER it worked for me. Need reinf on solo 9-12 went wrong? Not gonna help. I'm going to die because nobody's going to join.
Game's always set to public, too.
Bust my ass off trying to solo a "hard as hell" mission, need assistance and toss down an SOS. I tough it out and make it home alive... random guy joins on my ship while i'm afk few minutes later. so I yell at him "Where were you when I needed you!" he quietly leaves.
