The game is definitely designed for co op though so you'll be missing out on alot of the fun.
Keep in mind it has friendly fire of all sorts, so you'll die a lot, but you can resurrect each other as well.
The camera is shared, so it takes a good synchronization to be played properly in groups. It adds to the challenge at first, but make it a rather unique experience of team coordination.
An option to reconnect is really necessary imo!!
There is no issue with losing connection if you log in offline in the first place :)

Well, its possible to solo, but its a ton of kiting and slow progression. If your looking for a game where you can easily, or even somewhat easily run around and blow stuff up this won't be your game. I didn't play it much, only a few levels, maybe it gets easier as you progress but it was too difficult for my taste.
