The "Punisher" 's reload....
I had to press "R" without rest when I deep into heavy fight...
Should the reload by press once automaticly?
I means it should be same as shotgun in Left 4 dead 2.

Should be. But it isn't. Dev oversight or done on purpose? Who knows. But as it sits it just makes no one use the gun because of how inconvenient it is to load the thing.

Let's say for the fug of it that it does have the auto-reload like all other games that have pump-action shotguns. In theory. It's damage is good but it cannot kill cyborg or bug patrols without you getting spotted because the pump mechanism just isn't fast enough. Still an interesting gun, good range and damage and I want to like it. I would like it if that damn reload wouldn't wear out my R button just playing a single map with the thing.

Would be nice if it had a magazine style weapon upgrade, to make it load ammo from a mag instead of manual, but eh, that's the only manual reload shotgun in the game so far so i don't bother.

I don`t mind it that much. It's not that useful on harder difficulties anyway, and on lower ones the reloading isn't much of a problem.
However would be nice if the character wouldnt scream RELOADING after every second shell.

Great for sniping out patrols before they see you, snipes beyond the max 1920x1080 confines. Great for any difficulty really. That's the pay off, insta-gibs patrols for multiple reloads. Not the best of weapons to be in an alarmed patrol situation, especially on a Helldive.

plenty of weapons shoot past screen and are much better for patrols.

It's just another sign that the game is indeed a port of a console game. On a controller mashing that reload is alot easier and feels less awkward.

The tradeoff is the thing is stupidly powerful for a shotgun, massive single target power but given how many enemies you usally fight it's a pretty bad gun overall. I'd only even consider it on a boss fight and theres plenty more options to consider in that case.

Actually it could make an excellent backup weapon if you bring in a heavy weapon stratagem now that I think about it. But that's kinda reaching.

well it isn't that bother while using controller.
but it take too much time to reload a whole magazine.
or keep pressing the button and the character would keep reloading this weap.which solved the problem while remaining the advantage to let u stop and fire at any point.

After seeing this thread I decided to use the punisher for a while. I came to the conclusion that it isnt hard at all to mash r while keeping figers on wasd. I have no idea what everyone in this thread is crying about. Also if you just remember to mash R inbetween shooting and other actions at all times it is very easy to keep the gun loaded all the time. while it has some value the gun is overshadowed by other weapons. wouldn't bring it on a helldive without good reason but its more than enough for medium. stylish too.

I prefer SG-8 The Punisher over SG-225 The Breaker. Love the shooting and reloading action of The Punisher but the constant reloading are stressing the finger and in time of dire.

I don't think that it's because it's a difficult mechanic. It's probably because all of the button-mash mechanics that were in the PS version (mashing to stand up, mashing to fill the progress bar at objectives, etc) were changed to just holding the button on the PC port. Except this one, which is why it's jarring. It just seems like an oversight to not have changed this to "hold R" instead of "mash R".

Also, yelling "Reloading!" all the time...

ok but think of this, if you are holding R doesnt that just make it harder to keep moving since a finger is now stuck to the key instead of hitting it inbetween other actions?

Just macro the reload? If you don't have a macro-capable mouse/keyboard I do feel for you though. That would be super annoying.

If tapping R reloaded one shell, but holding it down would continuously reload, you'd be able to do either way. Although, holding R vs tapping it repeatedly still means taking one finger off a directional.

Reloading while sprinting right or up was a bother for me since it would interrupt the sprint. I used AutoHotkey to bind one of my extra mouse buttons as a secondary reload key.

As for the Punisher itself, I do like it for Illuminate missions as it 1-hits Hunters and Observers. But I always take a support weapon suitable for heated situations. If it had a semi-automatic fire upgrade it would be much more viable. But as it is now the Breaker is a much more suitable shotgun for general use.

I would like to see the option to just hold down the reload button.

On the other hand, it is the best primary for soloing Illuminate helldives. I've done this literally dozens of times with different weapons, but it can 1-shot the scouts from any range and has plenty of ammo. Any other weapon has the possiblity for bad luck with bullet spread or at least ammo troubles.

It's true that other guns can deal with the heavier stuff better, but I never have to deal with the heavier stuff when I bring that shotgun. mmm mmm. It's not so annoying to reload when you only have to reload one shell per enemy.

It has its niche.
