Is this like a mix between Alien Swarm and Starship Trooper?

Most of its similarities with Alien Swarm are more just similarities with the Twin-Stick Shooter genre as a whole, but yes.

Thematically the game is more halfway between Starship Troopers and Warhammer 40k.

And of course, though I doubt you haven't already heard, there's a Third Person Shooter sequel that released in the last month that you should also check out if you enjoy this game!

Since Helldivers 2 got popular I was curious about the first and honestly I prefer top down games (I know it's weird but I'm like that).

So in a way it's like how Risk of Rain 2 is a TPS version of a mechanically 2D game.
