Thematically the game is more halfway between Starship Troopers and Warhammer 40k.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, but you can get this game very cheap very frequently, so if you like the idea, you should pick it up and try it.
And of course, though I doubt you haven't already heard, there's a Third Person Shooter sequel that released in the last month that you should also check out if you enjoy this game!
It's gauntlet but with guns and bombs and machines instead of magic, axes, bows and etc.
So in a way it's like how Risk of Rain 2 is a TPS version of a mechanically 2D game.
