Pick up HELLDIVERS.
Do you like twin-stick shooters?
Pick up HELLDIVERS.
Do you like dialing in strategems like a DDR champion?
Pick up HELLDIVERS.
Do you hate having to rely on your teammates?
Steer clear.
Do you hate the necessity of having anti-tank in your team?
Steer clear.
Do you have an issue with weapons being locked behind warbonds in 2?
Steer clear (DLC isn't mandatory but a lot of people's preferred strategems and weapons are behind them.)
Let's also mention the healthy player base still has some amount of players ranging from low to high meaning all difficulty missions will have lobbies
I'd recommend playing with friends, though I haven't had much problems with randoms but it's a lot easier to organize your loadouts with friends. You can easily grind out the entire game solo though, you can sample farm on easy missions which will allow you to upgrade all the weapons/strategems.
Biggest turn-off I'd say is the Shared Screen, it's like an old school Split Screen type of game when playing multiplayer which can get annoying when teammates don't go in the direction you want to go, but trick is to basically have 1 person lead the rest cover.
It requires more intelligence from your teammates than Helldiver's 2 requires as it's way easier to friendly fire when there's no Z axis to work with and you're not allowed to get away from your teammates. Trick is to form into roles and cover certain areas, it's hard to deal with teammates who have Main Character syndrome though. (Don't give their teammates good fields of fire, have no understanding of positioning etc)
And for 4 bucks ATM, you won't regret it.
Honestly? HD1 feels like one of those hidden gem games you used to find on Xbox Arcade. That's how I found another game called Trenched, made by Double Fine. Ohhh those were GOOD days!
Then they can do their part too!
my fav thing is the motorcycle i hope it comes to hd2 soon
The screen is shared, meaning you don't get to run off on your own, you need to stick together as a team. Some people hate this, but I think it's a great feature. It forces you to move as a team and watch each others' backs and work together - like you'd imagine a squad of soldiers would do. Game is easier solo for this reason, but I don't play because something's easy I play because it's fun.
Controls with m+k might seems a bit weird at first but you get used to it and can spin and shoot very quickly and accurately. A lot of PC players still prefer controller, I haven't tried it myself but it's definitely not necessary.
I like how there's a lot of weapons and they're upgradeable. There's a decent amount of viable weapons too. Shotguns are insane in that they have a massive cone of fire and can kill your teammates very easily. There have been many games where I've died to my teammates shotgun way more than the enemy,
Stratagems work similarly to H2, but some items (recoiless, jump pack, etc.) can only be called down only once. If you lose it, you need to go back and get it which can be hard on higher difficulties and will require an entire team effort (due to sharing screen). But in H1, you can choose to bring the same stratagem multiple times, up to 4. If you wanna bring 4 x EAT-17s then you can. 4 x of the same exact airstrike? You can.
Also has multiple different mechs, APCs, a tank, motorcycle.
I like it a lot, it's a lot easier to play that H2 in that you can pickup and play a quick game or 3 pretty fast. If you like or think you might like these top-down style games, it's a no-brainer. If you don't like these types of games, can't imagine this would change your mind.
There's also a very decent amount of people playing for such an old game. Havne't had a problem finding a game since I started, the only solo game I played was to unlock the recoilless rifle (unlocked beating a planet on a lower hazard levels like 3 or 4, which I completely skipped).
