Helldivers constantly crashing on startup
For the past few hours Helldivers has just kept on crashing when being startup. I've verified game content through Steam a couple of times and even just deleted it completely and installed it again but to no avail. It has worked perfectly for the last few month's and I haven't changed anything on my system so that's not the problem either.

The game works fine when launched normally from Steam, but when I try to open it in big-screen-mode or steam link it crashes right on startup. The only thing I can think of is that this has something to do with the new Nvidia drivers. This is still pretty weird since my other games don´t have problems in big-screen-mode or steam link. Any thoughts on this one?

I've just tried downgrading to the 362.00 Nvidia driver with the same results. When launched using big picture mode the game crashes after its window opens.

I'm also having this problem about crashing on startup. I don't use a controller so that's not the issue. I can't run the game normally but i can run it in safe mode. Done all the verifying and reinstalling etc but still crashes on the loading screen. Anyone see what the problem might be?

For some reason it started crashing again yesterday and opting back into Steam Beta fixed it this time, weirdly enough.

No idea if it's related, but for me Helldivers works fine the first time it's launched. Subsequent launches consistently crash, but restarting Steam allows me to launch it (again, once before it starts crashing).

I don't have this issue. I can startup and shutdown Helldivers as much as I want since opting back into beta again.

This happens every hour or so to me as well. Would be nice to hear from a dev.

Hi !

Helldivers was working perfectly until maybe 2 weeks or so, here.
And yes, since then, it crashes just a few seconds after I run it, even in safe 32 bits or such mode.

It works on local streaming here, and my controls are XBOX 360 (wireless) controls on a PC.

But I've found a solution and can play now.

If I run it with the control(s) *already* turned on (and connected to the controller), it crashes.

I then simply open the battery box of the control, and close it back.
Then it's turned off.

After this, I can launch the game, and it never crashes.

Hoping that helps?

I just bought this game and were trying diffrent community layouts for my steam controller before starting for real, which required me to turn off the game when i went from a gamepad to keyboard and mouse type. I realised i didn't like that so i switched back to officical profile. Exited the game from big picture mode (not in game if that matters). After that i would never see anything but a black screen again. I can still hear the opening cinematic but the there is just black with some wierd border at the top even though i changed to fullscreen in the settings. And i have to close it by alt tabbing and pressing the x in the corner of the window.

I've tried everything at this point. Leaving my steam link and controller off, validating the files, reinstalled, opting in and out of steam beta, updating my gpu drivers, restarting everything over and over and trying to force it to windowed mode through launch settings.

This were such a bummer, i were looking for a nice time with a new game from the store before my hard day at the hospital tomorrow and i ended up with one of the few games ever that i can't even launch and frustrating troubleshooting for 3 hours. I even doubt i can get a refund because i got the digital deluxe edition and i think i heard that you can't refund dlc. I never used or had to use it before. Is this problem taken seriously?

Doesn't seem to work either way but i have a steam link and controller which seems like a common theme here.

You absolutely can refund it. If its under 2hrs played and less than 2 weeks since purchase, you get a no fuss refund. A few clicks and you get your money back in an hour.

They will review your request if you go over either of those criteria, you may still get a refund (DLC incl!).

Id suggest you shelf this game for a week and see if the devs cant give a satisfactory response first.

This isnt related to the crashing, but the fact the game starts and you can hear the sound, my thoughts are either its trying to go to another display (If I stream to my TV and dont set the sound to the TV also, my PC would still be playing the audio for eg), or perhaps a setting file which doesnt get removed when you reinstall is keeping the display config thats not working for you.

I got it to work (atleast once but i think its permanent). There was something in the upper right corner that i tried to click on and it was some teamviewer thing that i disabled and when i restarted the game it worked. I use teamviewer to control my pc when needed when i use my steam Link which might be the problem for some others as well. I can't be the only one who use teamviewer for that since problems occur and you do not want to move all the time.

It is still a issue though since no other game have done that before.
