Helldivers was working perfectly until maybe 2 weeks or so, here.
And yes, since then, it crashes just a few seconds after I run it, even in safe 32 bits or such mode.
It works on local streaming here, and my controls are XBOX 360 (wireless) controls on a PC.
But I've found a solution and can play now.
If I run it with the control(s) *already* turned on (and connected to the controller), it crashes.
I then simply open the battery box of the control, and close it back.
Then it's turned off.
After this, I can launch the game, and it never crashes.
Hoping that helps?
I've tried everything at this point. Leaving my steam link and controller off, validating the files, reinstalled, opting in and out of steam beta, updating my gpu drivers, restarting everything over and over and trying to force it to windowed mode through launch settings.
This were such a bummer, i were looking for a nice time with a new game from the store before my hard day at the hospital tomorrow and i ended up with one of the few games ever that i can't even launch and frustrating troubleshooting for 3 hours. I even doubt i can get a refund because i got the digital deluxe edition and i think i heard that you can't refund dlc. I never used or had to use it before. Is this problem taken seriously?
Doesn't seem to work either way but i have a steam link and controller which seems like a common theme here.
They will review your request if you go over either of those criteria, you may still get a refund (DLC incl!).
Id suggest you shelf this game for a week and see if the devs cant give a satisfactory response first.
This isnt related to the crashing, but the fact the game starts and you can hear the sound, my thoughts are either its trying to go to another display (If I stream to my TV and dont set the sound to the TV also, my PC would still be playing the audio for eg), or perhaps a setting file which doesnt get removed when you reinstall is keeping the display config thats not working for you.
It is still a issue though since no other game have done that before.
