If the devs put support for 21:9, good for you. If they don't, suck balls and move on.
Yes I can live with it having black bars down the sides because I enjoy this game, but almost every game these days works fine on 21:9. Diablo 3 or Just Cause 3 as examples I can think of... and Diablo 3 came out in 2012 - 4 years ago!
@Naskoni - that argument isn't even an argument, it's a completely incorrect perception. Again, look at Diablo 3. In a PvE game it doesn't matter what other players can or can't see, it makes NO difference to the game experience, apart from providing a negative experience for those whose aspect ratios are not properly supported. I can sort of understand this from Blizzard's point of view with Heroes of the Storm where they don't want players seeing a wider angle of the game, but honestly I still think this argument is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because there is this thing called "Fog of war" still which obscures player vision.
FYI Fog of War and visible screen area are two totally different things. The first one is fine in conjunction with the second and it doesn't give anyone using an ultra-widescreen any perceived "advantage" over others.
So basically both of your "arguments" are:
1) "I'm fine living in the past with my 16:9 1080p screen, therefore everyone else should pander to old set-ups like mine"
and
2) "In a PvE game the group will get negatively affected if you see a larger portion of the ground around you"
Both utterly ridiculous points of view.
Pray tell, how can a group be "too positively affected" by one person having an extra 17.5% vision on the left and right side of the screen? Especially when that vision is COVERED BY FOG OF WAR just like everyone elses.
I'm astounded at the way you are feverishly arguing against my choice to buy a 21:9 monitor and the fact that I am well within my right to ask the devs WTF is up with them not supporting an INDUSTRY STANDARD ASPECT RATIO in 2016. I will say it again, go and look at monitors on the market today, right now, and still try to tell me that 21:9 is not a viable thing these days.
The irony here is I could ask the same thing, only in my case it would actually be a rhetorical question.
If all you have to say is snide personal remarks against me then kindly don't bother posting here at all, thank you.
There is a lot they could do, but honestly just extending the screen to cover the full aspect ratio would be fine. Even with fog of war, or seeing some incomplete sides to some maps occasionally... who cares. At least it won't be showing massive pillarboxing.
Second of all, devs aren't ignoring you. They read everything that comes up, and Peon comes around once a few days to respond to you, but only if they have anything to actually add to discussion. I doubt there is anything here, because you're quite definitely not getting ultrawide support for two main reasons.
First one is the aforementioned wider field of view compared to your teammates. This does actually benefit the team in that you would be able to see patrols farther. This introduces two large coding issues.
First, your suggested Fog of War would be terribly buggy to implement in this type of game, which has a shared camera for all players. Furthermore, this game is supposed to support couch co-op to the fullest. This would mean that you're just watching backdrop on that fancy extra width of yours, because there's no way for one player to see where others don't when they're watching the same screen.
Second, the game features optimizations in order to save on animation rendering and such things. The patrols are only a dots on your map and nothing else until you get close enough, which is when they actually spawn. Because you would now have a larger field of view, they may very well have a conflicting issue whether to spawn or not. Treating such exceptions would be no easy task, even with your beloved fog of war.
Another main reason you're not getting ultrawide is the engine. This game is a port of a PS4 game, engine and all. Ultrawide and 4K are not supported for games on the PS4 system, and therefore this game's engine omitted such support as well. This lack of support has passed on to PC, and troubles with engine are truly hard to fix and require a lot of effort, and possibly additional funds, which Arrowhead would probably not be given from Sony.
You're not getting ultrawide resolutions on this game, I'm sorry. It's far too much work for a game that is considered finished. Not abandoned, mind you. Finished.
We won't be adding support for ultra wide monitors. Helldivers does work in those aspects but we have to limit the viewable area, since otherwise it interferes with the levels meaning that you'd be able to see outside of the map.
