voice chat doesn't work
Hi.

I can't hear other people, but they can't hear me.

My mic and voice chat work in:
- Other games, such as DOTA 2.
- Programs, such as Skype.
- In the Steam settings and in the Windows settings.

I've checked that Push to Talk is disabled in Steam and Helldivers, and that voice chat is enabled in both.

Yet, other players can't hear me.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Only thread I saw here that talked about mic troubleshooting was this one. While it doesn't match your problem, you may want to try Incognito's tip about adjusting mic volume while in-game.

Like maybe the game is defaulting your mic setting too low to be detected in-Helldivers, even if the Windows setting is properly set. I know it's a shot in the dark, just maybe worth a try. :)

Two Different Problems With Voice Chat

You can do it by:
1. Minimize game(Helldivers)
2. Navigate to sound record settings
3. Find your headphones or microphone you're using
4. Adjust volume manually
5. Get back in game and see if it changes anything.
Also, if you're with friends I suppose NOT using push-to-talk is fine, but the vast majority of people playing pick-up groups really do NOT want to listen to all the background noise of a constantly running microphone (keyboard clacking, kids crying, pets barking/meowing, constant "obscene phone caller"heavy mouth-breathing, etc., etc.). I heard all of that when playing on Vita last year.

I salute Arrowhead for getting voice comm into the PC version but early on decided not to enable voice comm at all. I would've liked maybe 4 additional hotkey voice macro recordings ("Thank you!" for example. Or maybe "Stop dropping my reinforcement pod in a hornet's nest!" or "Stop taking my stuff you vulture!" or "Stop running the opposite way when I'm wounded at the edge of the screen!" or "Stop spinning towards the rest of the squad and blasting your shotgun at us" or... OK maybe those are too long :steamfacepalm:)

The volume is always at 100. It doesn't work.

Considering this is a cooperative game, this is very disappointing.

After spending two hours to try to fix that in all kinds of ways, I decided to get a refund. We sometimes play the game in lunch breaks at work, and it was enough fun there that I thought that buying it at home would be worth it, but not having voice chat is for me too annoying for a cooperative game.

Sorry. I really did try hard to find some threads here that would offer advice.

The only semi-consistent thing I found in threads around last December's launch on Steam was that some players could *only* get voice to work properly when set to "push-to-talk," which is what most players prefer anyway. A couple find PTT worked, whereas when they had it set to mic all the time, it didn't. Though it sounds like you likely tried that at some point.

I enabled voice briefly yesterday and promptly heard one guy's keyboard clacking every second -- I don't think he even realized he had voice on and "PTT" disabled -- and another guy chomping on food. Just reminded me why I don't bother with voice chat in Helldivers.

Though hey, I've returned games because I found them too difficult or I couldn't get comfortable with the controls. And so if one wants voice in this and can't get it working, I understand returning it.

Perhaps when Arrowhead gets back in mid-August, they'll see this and have some sort of suggestion(s) even if it's a moot point by then.
