Can anything be done about the cursor?
Having an almost invisible cursor is a bit silly, but the worst part is that it keeps resetting itself. I can't count the number of missions I've lost simply because my cursor keeps resetting its position. You can't properly aim in this game if your cursor keeps moving around on its own.

Also, is there any option to change the visibility of the cursor? As in, always have it be the white reticle instead of the dark gray one that blends in with every single map?

If you do a "crosshairs" or "crosshair" forum search, you'll find many, many threads on the topic and the dev's reasoning for how it is.

Lots of us have hundreds of hours in this game with its "unplayable" controls/cursor/crosshair. Give it a chance, you'll get used to it, maybe even enjoy it. :) Or get a refund before the 2 hour point and just enjoy more typical "crosshairs always on" games, that's fine. No further Helldivers development is planned (as far we've been told) -- Arrowhead's moved on to a Secret game project -- so the way Helldivers is, is the way it is.

Arrrowhead did a add a greyish "always on crosshair" under the options menu, but I never found it useful and I'm not sure it really "did it" for people seeking something more akin to Alien Swarm, Shadowgrounds, Alien Breed Impact et al on the crosshairs handling side.

Neon Chrome is probably my other favorite twin stick on Steam these days, and it uses a more typical 'always on' crosshair system. So I'm not averse to that kind of aiming system at all. No online play though. :steamsad:

Next time read the post instead of just the title. The main issue is the cursor resetting its position. There's no way a developer would intentionally have the cursor move to default at seemingly random intervals. At one point I was aiming down a chokepoint fending off bugs when I let go of Right Click, didn't move the mouse at all, then pressed Right Click again and started shooting when the bugs came, only to watch my character obliterate my girlfriend's character that was standing right next to me. In the instance of one, maybe two, seconds, the cursor had moved its position halfway across the screen without me moving the mouse at all.

The cursor gets some getting used to, but it feels quite natural once you get the hang of it. Yes, it does reset the mouse, but it does it consistently. I can know exactly where it will appear: directly in front of my character. Once you get a feel for where the cursor appears and how fast your character can rotate, you won't ever notice issues with the controls again.

This is the only reason i could play the game, since the main problem (for me at least) is the constant reset of the mouse position in front of the character, so that grey shadow solved the problem since i know where the mouse is and i'm ready to react.

Got to agree with the OP here, the cursor is a bit of an issue. I am surprised if there is so much dislike for the current setup that it hasn't been "fixed".

This is what we got after the "fix", before it was worse (then again some people say that the original controlls were fine or even better), the issue about the mouse resetting position can be turned off in the options but you get a dark shadow of the mouse (kinda hard to follow but ok), so the part about cursor resetting it's position in front of the character is actually solved.

Certainly doesn't feel like that to me, I am constantly having to fight with the cursor whenever I bring up my gun to aim. I see no valid reason why it can't just be more visible - even if it were an option that players can turn on or off - like the current "black" cursor.

This was already discussed when the game came out, and the devs added that black cursor after a month of negative comments about the aiming system (before the patch there was only the resetting position of the mouse), from then on there were more discussions about the visibility problem but the devs answered saying that there won't be any more adjustment to the game about this issue, so starting another discussion about this now is completely pointless.
And btw i don't understand the reason for this broken controll system either, but at the release of the game the answer given by the devs was "this is for balancing the game for controller users".

Well that is a real shame. I don't understand the mentality there but guess I will just have to put up with it. Seems odd that they would attribute it to balancing when the game is not competitive but ah well. Cheers for the information anyway!

I can confirm the cursor resetting is still an issue. Many times I'll be aiming at an enemy, switch directions with my character while not moving the mouse at all (still holding right click) and my character will start aiming the direction he is facing. I've watched my cursor completely disappear off the map while aiming a certain direction waiting for an enemy to appear only to see my character aiming a different direction and the cursor is nowhere to be seen. When I release right click and click again, the cursor is directly in front of him without having ever moved the mouse.

It's still an issue, but if the devs aren't going to fix it, then I guess we will have to hope for a sequel with better aiming controls or a better developer ideology in that they won't intentionally gimp keyboard and mouse users just because it's harder for controller users to aim.

Hell, I'd be all for the option for controller users to inherently have laser sights on all weapons so they can change loadouts without having their aiming penalized.

As i said this has been fixed, there is an option in the option menu: corsair always visible, just turn the option on.

Honestly the longer I played the less of an issue the cursor was for me. When the game first hit PC I thought the cursor only being on while you aimed was confusing, but now I find it almost second nature. The only change I would like to see with the cursor is the option to change its color as it can still be hard to locate it on certain levels such as snow planets.

You really should read the whole post.

I have that option turned on. When you press and hold right click (aiming), it makes the cursor visible (white reticle). The white reticle stays there for as long as you hold down right click. However, sometimes when I'll be aiming down a certain direction then I'll move my character (movement keys) in a different direction without letting go of right click, my cursor will disappear and my character will instantly be aiming in the direction I was moving. Basically, if I'm aiming north on the map and I start to move backwards, sometimes my character will do a 180 and start aiming south. This has been viewed several times when I started to shoot at the enemies I was aiming at, but my character shot the objective I was guarding which was behind me.

It might be a glitch, bug, whatever, but the cursor resetting itself was not fixed entirely.

Then make it a toggle and see if that solves the issue.

I was replying to Fallen, not you (if there was any confusion).

The game is still fun and still playable, but this has caused us to lose a few times which can be very frustrating at times.
