I just returned from the screening, it was awesome. I'm going to flag down someone from Arrowhead and encourage them to rent it or grab the Bluray later -- I'm sure their fancy new digs off the harbor in Sweden has a nice screening room.
Here's a pre-show slide I got a picture of:

New for this movie is an emphasis on the soldiers wearing "power suits." These include a limited fuel "booster jet pack" which allows them to sustain flight for a few seconds (not just Jump as in helldivers), a large pivoting multiple missile launcher on one shoulder, and an auto-retracting face shield so they can quickly show the characters' faces from time to time.
It's still got the funny satirical commercials and jabs at social media -- although to some extent what's really going on in our world today is crazier.
It was made by a Japanese animation studio using motion capture. It's not what I could call up to Battle for the Planet of the Apes standards. You can see that just from the paucity of "mo-cap dots" on the actors' faces during the pre-show "making of the movie" feature we got to watch.
Still plenty of, "You Apes wanna live forever!" :)
In terms of the action, and weapons play and the sheer overwhelming number of bugs on screen, it's all good.
I didn't find it as much dumb fun as the 1997 movie. This one is more straight ahead action, and the humor is ilmited to a few biting commercials. :)
