Once you've picked up the Sniffer, use "aim" ("fire" also works, but it's slower) to scan the ground for mines. You'll get feedback on the Sniffer the closer you are to a mine. Once you've unearthed a mine, disarm it by interacting with it and dialing the correct inputs.
P.S. If you're working in a team, I would suggest picking a role and sticking to it (someone sweeps, someone else defuses).
You are awesome for this! 5 years later and this is still super helpful! Playing Helldivers again for the first time in years and I had no idea what to do on a map where I had this as 2/3 objectives.
Holy crap... I guess I have been doing this for 5 years.
It sure is great that LITERALLY NOWHERE IN THE GAME is this actually explained.
For example, you can put waypoints on the map and they'll be color-coded based on which player placed it. Or, when you're doing the "Repair and Fire Artillery" objective, the shells will appear on the map once you complete the second phase. The game will never tell you little things like this.
In fact, some of what the game does tell you is actually wrong, inconsistent, or misleading. lol Mind you, it's usually nothing crucial or anything that'll kill your fun if you even notice it, but it's there.
