I know I even joked that duing a game but come on, when your basically crawling with it...you die. Its trash.
The MC-109 'Hammer' motorcycle doesn't have an airbag, as it's an open vehicle. An airbag firing would just throw the rider from a moving vehicle. This is unsafe.
So in the interest of not leaving a soldier wounded and potentially dying after a nasty crash, the ministry for health and safety mandated that the airbag should be replaced with a spring loaded spike which fires in the event of a crash.
A crash, in this case, is detected by a loss of weight in the saddle whilst the vehicle is in motion, signifying that the driver has been thrown and will potentially land in a crippled and vulnerable state. Thus the spike is deployed, euthanising the rider instantly and relatively painlessly.
At the same time, it encourages safe driving practices, as a crash will result in death, rather than only a chance of it.
ROFL
*This works better if you sing Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild" while viewing it.
*For some reason, the embed here on Steam is "mute," but when I view it on YouTube itself, the sound is fine.
I'd say if it's useful at all, it's on lower-medium difficulty missions where the LMGs lack of AT ability isn't a concern, and you can run over lots of lesesr targets. It can be kinda useful on snow of desert environments, not at all on volcano type (you'll just ride off cliffs to your death constantly).
I dunno if it would be useful on illuminates because any fence beam would one-shot kill it if it intersects, though you can say that about every vehicle or exosuit in the game.
Watching my vid, the fundamental issue is that the front wheel does not "pivot" the way a motorcycle's front end would. The whole cycle is this stiff, long, one-piece vehicle that steers like a big woodend board. Which can be fun as heck :-) Just not precise to steer with.
More than likely that's just a technical limitation of the engine or the game not having really been designed from the get go to support this type of vehicle.
The difficulty in trying to be effective with the cycle's Light MG is really you're limited to a very tiny firing radius off the "right" side of the motorcycle. When I was driving with Sumocat on board I really had to make a concerted effort to steer with the right side pointing towards aliens so he could get some shots off.
