Cannot play the game with the controller
When I start the game, I cannot move the character with the controller. When I press X, another character appears, now there are 2 characters, only 1 of them is moving, both are shooting however. If there are 2 people, same story, just 4 characters now. I do not have DS4 Windows running.

Using DS4 controllers.

Go back to main menu, use your controller for the "press any button" bit.

It is known by devs that the DS4 doesn't work directly with Helldivers at this time. If you haven't been using DS4Windows till now, you will have to, but it does work well. Refer to this guide if you need some pointers.

@Pelia
BTW, I finally got to test my Xbox1 controller and they do work with windows 7, had to jump online and download their drivers and was all set.

I will try it with DS4, but it is weird that that is required, seems like it has native support ... I will give this game a try when they fix it, most developers integrate DS4 functionality nowadays, should be a matter of time.

But IMO, should work at least in big picture mode.

I briefly tried DS4 in Big Picture, and that worked, as it is both supported and functioning. Devs have noticed a problem with DS4 on Hellviders and are looking into it.

There's some compatibility issues with the new PS4 DualShock 4 controller, which we know spawns a second player. We are already looking into it and it will hopefully be patched, but for now if you can use an older model :) There is no need for DS4 in Helldivers.

You don't need ds4.exe anymore to play steam games with the ds4/ps4 controller. I use a bluetooth dongle on my pc and connect my ps4 controllers. Launching helldivers in big steam mode all you need to do is remap the LS button and dpad buttons. Works great.

Connect controller (option not available without controller on and connected)(wireless/Bluetooth/wired is fine)
Launch steam “Big Picture”
Select library, select helldivers, select manage game, select “controller configuration”
Remap the four “dpad” buttons (bottom left box) and the “LS” analog stick (bottom center left box)
Not sure if you need to close steam, but doubt it, should work from there.

I used my DS4 controller (same that I been using on my PS4 for couple of years now) just yesterday and it worked perfectly. Just plug it in to USB, launch game and start using the controller from the title menu. The right PS controller button prompts show up and everything. Very simple at least in my experience so far.

Before that I have used Xbox One controller and Xbox 360 controller and both of those work natively without issue as well. For them I have wireless USB dongle and then they work. The DS4 was more responsive (probably because not on wireless).

I think you have the older DS4 model. The new ones are the slightly more slimline ones iirc (they also have a "2" in their code on the sticker on the reverse) :)

Regardless this issue should be patched pretty soon ^_^

Lucky me :RyseHelmet:

Glad fix for people with newer versions of DS4 is in the works

I got new DS4 just to use on computer after I found one that includes a Wireless Adapter.

It is newer model of DS4 where the lightbar can be seen on the touchpad area and it works for Helldivers on Steam without issue when connected via USB cable. I still can't read the back of it (too small print for me), so maybe there is an even newer model of DS4 that has the "2" in their code.

That said, it does have problem where it is not recognized natively by Helldivers on Steam when I try to use it wirelessly. Pressing any key just doesn't register. I bought it mainly to have a wireless DS4 to play Helldivers on Steam.

I have verified a few other games where it is working perfectly fine both wired and wireless (like Filthy Lucre).

When fixing the original reported issue, can you also have the developers put in native support for the DS4 when being used wirelessly? Thanks

I simply use DS4Windows to make wireless work via the laptop's own BT module.

I tried that. It tries to install DS4 drivers and fails. I'll just stick with using the DS4 wired for Helldivers until they make it work natively wireless.

Have already found other games where it is working fine natively even wireless. I think just a matter of Arrowhead putting in some code tweaks to recognize a wireless DS4 same as they are recognizing the wired DS4.

When is that attempt to install drivers taking place? Is it when you pair the device or when you have the program manually install the driver from the window that pops up on first launch?
