Why Aren't City Fights Common?
I've been playing since the start of the Christmas sale, a veteran by no means, but I've seen most of what the game has to offer and still having a ton of fun w/ it. However, I have yet to see a city map and friends say they're some of the coolest maps in the game. Why do the game mechanics make this map type so rare? It seems like such a waste. Has there been a demand on the devs to tweak the mechanics to make cities common?

The city maps are basically constricted street grids and seem meant more as an occasional change of pace. Not sure how "cool" it is :), just the claustrophobic streets and having less room to maneuever makes for a different experience than wide open planetary environments elsewhere.

Here's an example back from the Dec. 2015 launch, some 2-player City Defense stuff with a guy named Veltex:

As far as the mechanics of it goes, Gampedia's wiki describes it as:
http://helldivers.gamepedia.com/Galactic_Campaign
Wars can be lost if the community doesn't accumulate Influence quickly enough, allowing our adversaries to conquer our sectors of the Galaxy map and eventually push the battlefront all the way to Super Earth.

If the community is unable to successfully complete the resultant Defend Event (lasting 48 hours) then Super Earth will be destroyed and the war will be over.
So to some extent the campaign has to "go bad" at some point for a Defend Super Earth (i.e. , City Defense missions) to take place.

I don't know about adjusting that per se (probably only Arrowhead could speak to that). It seems really contingent on how many players play and how well we do.

I think at one point I suggested some form of city/urban environs be a 4th type of regular planet environments, but other players suggested that city defense is best as an occasional dessert, not as the main course. :)

The main issue right now is that the wars are being won too fast and that is going to limit your chances of seeing a city map. Hopefully it will balance out down the road because they are currently quite rare.

I'd get behind your suggestion as urban for a 4th environment. It doesn't need to be as common as the other types, but it would be fun to see it. The game assets are there, it just seems like they're going to waste w/ the current system.

While I would welcome access to more urban worlds, I don't think the devs are going add those to the list of regular planets or change anything in the fundamental design of the how the war system works. Perhaps if there is ever a Helldivers 2 that issue can be addressed.
