For example first thing to consider is if you prefer to run with equipment or without. If you have equipment you basically have best firepower and protection, but when you lose your equipment, running back can be a real pain in the ass, especially on Helldives (even with well coordinated team, don't need to mention randoms). On the other hand, no-equipment, stratagem priority + all red stratagems setup give you a lot of flexibility at the cost of theoretically lower survivability (no shields, drones or jumppacks) and lack of heavy weapon.
My advice is to give no-equipment setup a try - maybe it will suit you. It works best if whole team runs no-equipment setup, but even alone it can work wonders. So my first sugestion is to play vs Illuminates with Trident, Stratagem Priority, 3x Close Air Support and Incendiary Bombs. Straightforward and powerful setup. Just be careful with those snipers...
With equipment setup everything is a matter of personal preference and teamplay - basically you play with anything you want unless team setup require teammembers to take something different than their favourite setup.
So your setups are OK with one minor detail - stratagem priority for ammo only is a waste of perk and there are usually better choices. Cardio, displacement-field and in case of your both setups - heavy armor also should work.
And finally, against Illuminates, Trident perform better than Sickle (soft enemies, going either in tight packs or single fast enemies - ideal targets for laser shotgun). On the other hand Sickle is better vs other races since it can aim dead-center at heavily armored enemies while Trident cannot.
Still this game is not about loadouts but about being able to adapt to the missions you have to do and bring equipment based on that, that's the only way for a good helldiver.
Hi Cockpuncher (What a cruel name D:)!
Thank you for the reply! But, the intention of denomination “Classes” I used is to talk about favorite loadout, and if the person give this loadout a name (like others games approaches), but, you brought an interesting point! What if this game discuss the standard “we need to have a class” mindset? And, you’re right that we aren’t stuck in a single loadout formula.
But, in some dives, I feel determining a role to a specific Helldiver works well!
Example: I’m the support, I’ll heal, reveal, load your missile or carry the team mags. The second Diver is the ground controller, so, his/her role is taking down big targets and have a nice control of the field. Than, we have the area controller, so, his/her duty is keep the gaps filled (in hold position instances), or set turret (not murderrets please), carrying red strats, and stuffs like that. We are mixing the strats over the team, not in each diver.
I like this mindset, but, it’ll obligate you have others playing with you, thing that I like. So, I think it’s well said “Role” over “Classes”. And, 99% of my time on Helldivers (now) is diving in others missions, because I don’t like so much to run solo dive, this is why I focused a lot on support. But, the “full support” works well on mission with 2 or 3 Divers, and unless one of this Divers carrying an Anti Tank.
Thank you to suggest “no-equipment” setup! I’ll try it! :)
Interesting point (About perks)! I like a lot having strats ready to use asap (As a support fan player and “full loaded ammo” addicted), but, another perk should be more helpful. Personally, I don’t like heavy armor, imho Mobility > Durability on this case.
Trident is a interesting choice, but, I prefer not using Liberty and Trident. I think they are OP, but, maybe I’ll give some try if I’ll choose an aggressive approach!
Thank you!! :)
Hi FallenG0D!
I didn’t take an AT because in this set up I’m counting someone is filling the AT role! But, flexibility is a key to a good Helldiver indeed! And, to build my concept of “support role” I thought “healing ability” indispensable.
Thank you!!
Nice take on the roles/clases. One thing they should all be responsible for is killing patrols before they sound the alarm :)
Primary: Either Breaker SG or M2016
Perk: Heavy Armor
Stratagems: Minigun turret, RL 112, Obsidian Exo, Resupply
Yup, as you could see I was an avid mech lover. I get the bazooka and jump into my mech at the start of the mission (got called a "f***ing noob" by some 20s level guy and he bombed it out 1 time, didn't get to report him unfortunately). I personally found that build able to tackle difficulty 6 with some effort (again, considering how I wasn't very skillful). I hang behind the squad and provide hail of gunfire with my dual cannons then jump out for a few seconds to bazooka the heavy foes. I'd like to say that I was the "area holding" type with the mech and the turret, along with having some ammo support. The Breaker was in case the enemy was the bugs, which I found a it a nice thing to have against lower level foes unlike those heavily armored warriors you find late game. And the M2016 was practically my personal liking. The inherent AP ammo helps me oneshotting lower level stuff (even the bugs but that requires running). Yeah, some people appreciated that but the others got real triggered about it. (like that guy I mentioned, he called me a noob almost as soon as I joined and all throughout 4-5 games we went through)
As I've said, that was in the past and now I'm looking for other things. Now I roll with a cardio accelerator, AR 14 Paragon, EAT 17, SH 20, MG 94, and resupply stratagems. I found this build useful in both duo game with my friend and pub games. I'd toss my friend the MG 94 and use either his Deconstructor or the EAT, the shield is for personal durability as we both use it. In pub games I'd rock the machinegun myself (thank god for move and fire upgrade) and be the "anti infantry" of sorts. But nothing is really set in stone as to what I use.
I kill helldivers that teamkill (accident or not).
I dont panic, I kill to survive; If I'm on your team you know your going to live through the whole mission (each submission).
I hunt the 3 bosses for game(sport). They are the only adversaries that stands a chance.
Teamwork is the game and im the walking turret.
I am the tools of Superearth. I do not choose who is bad or good but I send them there for that check up.
I am the ONLY helldiver that cares about YOUR life as much as YOU do, but if you cross me (shoot me)
I'll kill you.
I am a Helldiver; I don't die.
