how do you get ammo from you own backpack?

When you reach your last mag, pressing E will resupply from your backpack.

Yep, and for a little helpful tip; if you want to Resupply off of your own pack before you get to the final mag in your primary weapon, run your pistol down to IT'S last magazine (I just fire a shot, reload, repeat) and resupply. This is especially effective if you are using Stun Grenades (or any grenade for that matter) as they too refill off of a resupply.

Another free tip; if you are going to do the reloads for a buddy (i.e. the RL-12) have the shooter wear a Resupply Pack, that way you can grab ammo from him when the Support Kit that came with the weapon runs dry.

I wonder what else I didn't know, that I thought I knew.

Reminds me that in Killing Floor 2 the Support Perk has a "resupply pack," but always drives me batty I can't use it myself. I don't think the E key does it there though.
