Arrowhead Helldivers want swords.
Arrowhead, will you give me a sword in game if i log 1000 hrs mission time? how about 100000 melee kills? Whatever it takes, I want sword pls. What feats of democracy must I achieve to prove that the helldivers need a sword?

If you want a sword then go play Gauntlet.

No silly, I don't just want a sword. I want a sword in helldivers so I can vanquish the enemies of super earth in hand to hand combat with fire and steel for the glory of democracy! This I clearly cannot do in Gauntlet.

Seconded! More melee options would be cool!
Doesn't suit the game mechanics a great deal though, tbh.
The bayonet increases melee range and damage, which is good enough for me, as far as the mechanics go. A sword and pistol loadout would be pretty snazzy though! ;)

The only melee change I'd like to see is the ability to use a rifle butt melee attack with a weapon that has a bayonet (hold for a bayonet strike, tap for a butt strike) to make bayonets less of a side-grade.

Other than that, I do not want a sword or any melee weapons as they are stylistically and mechanically inconsistent with Helldivers in the extreme.

Swords just don't fit with the gameplay. If you want an Arrowhead game with swords there is Gauntlet. If you really just have to stab something in Helldivers then use your bayonet.

Or use the Tanto <3

Melee is far more viable than most people know i think. The bayonet goes largely ignored by almost all heldivers when it has a lot of tactical value in many situations. Especially when you know how to do the sprint lunge. Which I am unsure is an intended mechanic or a bug but it is cool and im going to keep doing it unless they patch it or something. You can easily finish off low enemies like tripods and some bugs, (broodlord risky), even some cyborgs. Butchers are risky, beserkers are actually pretty safe as long as you weaken them first, dogs are a joke, grotesque same as beserkers really just larger groups and spammy attacks so maintaining distance with the lunge is key. and save ammo by lasthitting things with your bayonet keeping you engaging longer and killing more stuff and reloading less if you are able to pull off safe hits and finish enemies with the bayonet. Even better if you run auto injector or a shield or something. All the benefits are instantly lost if you get downed, somewhat mitigated by autoinjector but then you are gambling and risk losing your gear or bogging down the squad. Its kind of all or nothing but it can be very beneficial. Jumpjets are nice too since if you mess up a swing and get hit back you can just jump because you have an escape mechanism removing a lot of risk from the reward of meleeing.

I think you are wrong there and i would challenge you on it.

I disagree, I think they fit just fine. maybe a combat dagger and pistol loadout would be more "lore friendly" for you? There is that scene in the starship troopers movie where the guy throws the knife at the dude. Starship troopers use knives, Helldivers are pretty much a parody of starship troopers. There I fixed it for you.

But the tanto is just a laser smg. And yes i realize that a Laser smg is technically just a longish lightsaber with a pistol grip, but its just not the same and you know it, dont be coy comon, I want a real melee weapon, or melee and pistol combo. Lightsaber, chainsword, combat knife, I don't really care, a sword would be just lovely, but I want to kill things for the glory of super earth and democracy with something just a bit closer and more personal than a bayonet. I don't think its mechanicly or stylisticly inconsistent with the game. Magika always had melee. Sure you spells were always far more devestating, and you were better off casting things instead of risking melee and getting you ass handed to you if you were not smart enough to cast some armor or barrier or ♥♥♥♥, but the wizards always had the damn sword. You know why? because it was cool damnit! The swords were even blunted. BUT THEY HAD SWORDS. helldivers is just space magika with stormtroopers instead of wizards. WHY DONT WE HAVE SWORDS DAMNIT!? Hell give me a damn helldivers flag with a pointy thing on the end. Would that be inconsistent? That sounds like the most democratic way to kill a bug I ever heard of.

HECK YA IT WOULD! Hell id pay like maybe even more than 5 bucks for it if it was a dlc with just that and not even a strategem or costume to go with it like the weapons or pistol dlc. Id buy that hands down. Sword and pistol pls arrowhead, SHUTUP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

They aren't going to make anymore DLC for this game so that is not an option. Your only hope would be they would add it during Liberty Day in October or on the 3rd anniversary next year and I don't see it realistically happening in either case.

This is a gun game and swords don't fit with the overall theme of the game being focused on firepower and friendly fire. The fact that there are a ton of guns and no melee weapons outside of your bayonet or the butt of your rifle proves this. Again, if you want to use a sword in an Arrowhead game then play Gauntlet.

well duh im realistic I know that. But a helldiver can dream can't he? And Maybe just maybe there is just that much more chance of it happening if arrowhead sees this thread? I mean no harm in making a thead about it and hoping for the best.

There is no harm in it, but again I wouldn't hold my breath.
