is there a way to reset my profile to level 1

If you go into the options menu there are progression settings located at the very bottom.

I WANT TO RESET MY PROGRESSION

We have implemented a "reset progression" option which is reachable from the main menu.

This is what the options do:

- "DROP A RANK" reduces your rank by one. If you wish to drop several ranks, you'll have to use this option multiple times. Ranking down will lock items (weapons/customization) which has previously been unlocked by leveling up. Unlocked achievements will not be affected.

- "RESET RESEARCH POINTS" sets your research samples and points to zero. It won't actually reset/refund the upgrades of your stratagems and weapons.

- "RESET UNLOCKS" locks back the stratagems you get by clearing planets. This will also reset all upgrades for these items.

- "RESET ALL PROGRESSION" pretty much wipes your save clean. Item unlocks, item upgrades, research samples/points and player xp is reset.

Read all that CAREFULLY to make sure you're doing the type of reset you really want to do.

It sounds like you may just want to "DROP A RANK" until closer to your friend's level, while keeping your unlocked achievemernts. If that doesn't matter to you, you just want a plain vanilla "start over" character with no achievements unlocked, then RESET ALL PROGRESSION seems OK for your situation. :)

Just to avoid some confusion: none of these options affect Steam Achievements in any way, shape or form.

I'm pretty sure BlackjackGT isn't talking about those, but if I didn't know I would be confused by that word. :-)
