They must release a patch that allows P2P connections with one player acting as the server for the session.
But dependent on how it was builöd a Offline mode might be hard.
(I think it was build in a way that even singleplayer opened a server session, so they would have to release the server or part of its function.)
I mean, you can't even call it "piracy" since after 2021 you can't download it anywhere and cant play it anywhere, right?
And risk getting sued by Gearbox? Just because they are shutting it down doesn't mean the license has become a free for all and thrown out to the public. It is still their IP even if they decide to do nothing with it for the next 20 years.
Do you honestly think "legit" is going to hold up in court?
Still, it's a real shame what we're going through. This is why I have trust issues.
Probably Depends on the exact wording of the License and the country they are sued in.
Like which provision are "Null and Void", and if the value lost is recognized.
For example the "Book Value" of the game schould have reached 0 for everybody who bought it.
PS: I am sure there is a country they prefere in the License (or even arbitration) but some Countrys customer protection voids that.
2K probably doesn't want you to be able to play old games because then you are less likely to buy and play their new games. They could easily release a patch for offline play but they won't because a functional, offline version of Battleborn would compete with Borderlands 3.
"Games as a service" is fraud.
