Vehicle Overhaul Update
Now that we've had an infantry overhaul, I was wondering if vehicles are going to get an overhaul? Specifically driving. It's always been awful in this game, and I love vehicle combat, but I have gotten stuck so many stupid ways when driving. Usually once per game I get stuck driving or someone else does. The vehicles have no weight to them, bouncing and sliding too easily. They don't accelerate uphill realistically either, way too slow. And I'm not even talking about armored vehicles, I'm talking about logis, technicals, MATV's, ect, these vehicles should have no issue with going uphill and maneuvering. Using a handbrake to stop a vehicle from sliding downhill (while resting) doesn't usually work either. The newer tracked vehicles for the VDV and Chinese factions are extremely difficult to drive, when you're moving forward and just tap the key left and right the vehicle might as well adjust 45 degrees at a time. Another issue I have is obstacles for vehicles. The tinniest rock can stop a tank, and tiny trees can stop any armored vehicle.
I think there just needs to be some attention added to the driving and overall vehicle experience on this game. It can absolutely ruin your day when you've finally gotten a vehicle to play with your friends after work, accidentally barely clip a rock, flip over and get blown up by a HAT 300m away.
Some solutions that I propose:
-Decrease the vehicle reset time by half - in my opinion with how often I get stuck, I am so done with the amount of time it takes to reset a vehicle just for it to either glitch out and you have to restart the timer, or it doesn't free the vehicle anyways!
- Add forward, reverse, left and right directions for the reset instead of just rotation
-Reduce the amount of things vehicles can collide with, such as rocks, fence posts, tiny trees, logs, empty oil barrels, other props that SHOULD NOT stop a vehicle. Little banana market baskets shouldn't roll a logi.
- Add weight to vehicles - Vehicles should stop when you use the handbrake when on a decline or incline on a hill and at a resting position. They should not wipe out when slowing down and turning left and right. When hitting an obstacle at 90 degrees they shouldn't bounce back 20 meters, instead maybe 1 meter and stop. Just completely remove the bouncyness of the vehicles. Also try to make the vehicles have weight more centerlined to reduce rollovers. While rollovers happen, it should occur as much as it does on this game.
- Make accelerating or just moving uphill for transportation/support vehicles much easier. Logis and uparmored cars should have no issue with this. I suppose you can do the same with other vehicles respectively.

As far as combat and damage goes, I enjoy the gameplay right now and I'm not an expert on armor so I don't have any say in this. My main complaint is the operation and movement of the vehicles, its just way too chaotic and sticky.

The movement is a tough one since, from what I understand, the vehicle system in this game is some cobbled together rework of old PhysX. I think I remember reading some post by a dev years ago where the guy explained that the system they had "worked" but just barely.

It'd require a whole new vehicle system to be written probably. Unfortunately its just something that I don't see these developers putting the resources to.

They overhauled the infantry, why not the vehicles? I can see them updating it.

more weight for vehicles sounds right, also not getting stuck on every tiny tree stump (AAVP especially), altough i kinda think vehicles should be discouraged from driving into forests and stick to open ground and roads.

More accelaration when driving uphill sounds right as well, but offroad speed for wheeled vehicles might be a bit too high, since the ground has no characteristic. Driving through a muddy field or desert sand would be different from hard baked dirt and so on..., in Squad its all the same.

Generally i think tracked vehicles are in a good place by and large, wheeled ones should maybe get their offroad speed reduced a bit and all vehicles except tanks maybe should take a bit more damage from AT weapons.

I had this crazy idea that you could actually implement fall damage to vehicles to avoid the cheesy stuff like launching a full logi off of a cliff as a shortcut. It's probably too punishing to just outright destroy the vehicles, but maybe implement tire/track damage. That way you could still punish wacky off roading, and make vehicle routes require a bit more thought and/or make roads more important.

Its very apparent they don't have anyone with deep knowledge of C++ so theres only so much that can be done on the blueprint side of things. I mean all ICO really consists of is changing values in blueprints etc. Back when they were actually talking about their difficulties they were always blaming everything on the previous developers and their "spaghetti code" remember?
