I have seen people saying this to people with hundreds of hours in the game. I am not sinking thousands into this just to be able to actually take part in the game.
then until you are able to figure out the offensive part, being a role player within your squad seems to be the best route.
try using mortars, building stuff, running logistics, etc.
join a squad and do what people say. The best thing to do as a beginner imo besides rifelman is to play medic. You will have a clear task of helping bandage and heal teammates. You wont be the first guy getting shot because you need to protect yourself. And by doing this you will watch and learn quickly a lot about this game. And have a general idea of where enemies are coming from if you pay attention. just get prone throw smokes and pick your boys up. itll make your experience much more enjoyable. There are many role people play where they usually dont fire their weapon during the game, at least first that is. Thats my recommendation
You have to hug walls and use cover more.. And be more observant, that is STOP running the whole time, and look around more. You have to be smart when moving, move slow, listen A LOT, pay more attention to cracks and windows in buildings. People will camp entire streets through a hole in a random wall or a crack between 2 gates..
it doesn't take hundreds of hours
"...reverted back to laserguns..." I do not get where you people even get this idea from. Not even pre ICO was laser guns. If you cannot hit anything or being unable to see anything its on you. You people just want to be not shot right away for making a mistake that is all. And on top of that you like role playing more than actual FPS tactics. Communication and coordination does not mean you need noodle arms.
Besides ICO has not been deleted. It has been toned down.
It will take time, regardless. More time if you learn by yourself- I didn't get a single kill for like 7h.
If you can't find a good SL that can do this "handholding" for you, don't get pissed. Good SLs are pretty rare, and are usually overworked by the rest of the team, so your needs will naturally fall behind the team's.
In any case you should heed what the rest of the dudes said, and positioning yourself behind the first contact fighters will always give you more time and information where the enemy is.
And last- your PC will make a huge difference- the higher your resolution is, the easier it is to spot enemies.
Hope this helps man, gl.
Something video games have falsely taught people, is that in gunfights, you are shooting at people you see.
As someone who has been in both the USMC and Army as 0331 and 11B respectively, the reality is, MOST shooting is at "areas'.
Where you "Think" the enemy is. Only the incompetent enemy lets you see him.
Look for movement, fire at the movement. Maybe you kill them, maybe you dont, that is warfare.
I will offer a few tips that I do that helps me in game.
- This is not a run and gun game per se. Value your in game life and dont die and respawn over and over. Dont run down open streets right into fire. Use cover and camp more. Wait for your shots and realize the situation you are in.
- when you move ...move from cover to cover. Meaning take cover and look and listen to whats around you. If your mates are shooting or getting dropped respond to that situation. If taking losses take cover and try to cover lanes that your mates cannot cover. If your team is advancing then proceed but always be looking for cover if shooting goes off.
- pick the right role. as a rifleman you can get a a scoped rifle to help see the battlefield. If if you play a role with no scope then you will have binoculars. This will give you better vision of the field in front of you. use the binos before your gun to find targets. Dont worry about getting kills..try to just see where they are and where they are going. Once you start being able to spot them, then, you can start shooting. using the binos will give you that experience to get better at spotting which will lead to getting those kills.
- as you play and advance on the field, its not about rushing around and then 360 no scope shooting other players, move and then take a position and look and listen. scan the area first with just eyes and then bring up your scope to scan the area. If it looks clear and no shots are heard then progress. its a slow march but with practice and experience you will learn to move faster.
- use the map. the map shows a lot of what is going on around you and where to go and even marks where the enemy is. so this will give you an idea where to be looking. so if you see someone and dont know if teammates, open the map and see if its team.
- dont be point person. follow behind but not too close to one of your teammates. so if they spot one you can use that intel. if they shoot ask direction and location. if they go down ask where they got shot from.
This game is not TeamFortress where you jump around and try to out shoot other players. Its one shot one kill. Its tactical. You dont want to die in game and just keep respawning.
At the start of the match look at your teammates uniforms to see what your team looks like so anyone who doesnt look like your mates are the targets. You can also hit ENTER and click the teams tap on the top left so see the teams uniforms. usually its the helmets that give it away when the uniforms are close.
This is a harder game than the usual FPS because tactics, camo, and positioning all matter.
there is a lot more but slowing it down, moving with purpose and using cover will put you in the position where the enemy will come upon you and not see you.
Happy Hunting.
