Squad
2000 Hour Retirement
I've just hit 2000 hours in Squad, and unfortunately, I don't think this game deserves anymore of my time. Having played since early Alpha, when storage site was on Fool's Road. Which was a fight down the train tracks. The continuation of content and support from OWI through it's versions was admirable. It was disappointing that a full fledged sequel wasn't issued instead of several spin off titles. Armour is an unparalleled experience, with this player count. The Soft sim wrapped in a AAS gameplay is something I have enjoyed deeply.
However. This player base has just gotten painfully toxic. Whether it's people who don't have any desire to play as a team, coordinate, or even have a mic. Or the rise of the wannabe N**i's that are starting to proliferate chat, with hate and bullying. It's just not the fun, let's fight for each other, game it once was. I left Rising Storm 2 for the same reasons. The only players left were silent, or abusive. Kid's are routinely harrassed, and bullied, and it's more often than not by adult men that have failed themselves, along with everyone else.

Rally is burned. There are no HAB's. Logi's are gone. I've got to disband the squad.

yes. they really should have started working on squad 2. i have been saying this for years.

the direction of the game is not promising at all. i even agree with the ICO but the original implementation always felt like the first half of major changes coming our way. instead, we never got them.

bipods are still buggy as hell.

cant brace weapon against ledges.

no ability to change stance height.

those stupid railings in all the maps block bullets 80% of the time, you cant stick your barrel out.

no teamwork parkour other than standing on someones head to get over a ledge.

no parkour to simply roll over a 1m fence without standing on top of it and skylining urself.

mgs are major trash. no, suppression is not as effective as many people talk about it being. it lasts for a few seconds at most, requires a significant amount of prep (especially cuz bipods suck), places a giant target on the gunner, and covers a very limited range if you picked a safe spot.

discluding riflemen cuz they the basic class, medic and grenadier are the most useful classes to have in your squad that contribute to the squad. then marksman. every other class is far far behind or useless.

sandbags/fortifications still lack alignment with player height, making them mostly useless.

they nerfed solo player. great. but they need to buff teamwork and playing carefully, taking advantage of terrain, and setup. they forgot the second part.

try arma reforger.
There are still servers with a good playerbase worth to play with them. Without these people, i feel it the same.

Most mil sim games like Squad are more stress simulators and feel like you're working a job than having fun. SL volunteers you for logi run duty? You do it or get kicked. If no one does it, the game doesn't work. Far too often people don't want to do the basics of the games; it's not their problem, it's poor game desing.

Relying on other people to do basic functions sucks. SL can only do so much, they can drop a HAB but you need grunts to build it. It's like playing in the sand in elementary school and telling the kids around you to build the castle for you. It's moronic, and grown adults don't cooperate any better.

HLL did it right with SL being able to build a FOB, albeit they need a commander supply drop, or a supply truck. Squad 44 did it right with mobile FOBs that were amazing. Park it and it's a FOB. Get out of the truck and go into the action. Bar none the best spawn meta for these games, until they brought in Squad logi that destroyed the game overnight.

If you're not creating the battlefield, usually it ends poorly. Sure you can be a infantry man your entire life and never have to worry about it, but then you are the mercy of other people. There's one things these games teach; if you aren't doing it, it might never get done. I enjoyed being SL but far too often because I simply played it because there were too many poor SL's ruining the game for me.

If you can't spawn, you can't play. In Squad + S44, it's never fun being a nagger instead of leading the charge. HLL I felt like Rambo. People dont' want to pull out shovels in a shooter, let SL have a shovel and I won't care so much. These are all sore areas in these games. Staring at a progress bar doing nothing. YAWN

All these games have the same problem and Squad is one of the worst offenders. It's mostly sitting in a transport vehicle only to get sniped by armor and rinse and repeat. Teams win more because of which team makes more mistakes. I only played 250 hours of Squad before never coming back. I have 500+ hours in HLL or Squad 44 because the spawn meta's were actually fun. (Now they ALL suck)

Eventually the role leader task gets overwhelming when other people aren't playing properly. That's usually when you call it BAD GAME and leave and never come back.

It's like a game of chess, but every day there's less and less kings and queens, but far too many pawns. Those pawns then take on leadership roles and the game crumbles.

Nice explanation👍

true , the sadder thing for me is games just arent as long as before because of how teams conduct themselves and one of the teams collapses

Its like people wrote a new definition for the word Toxic. Toxicity where ? Explain.
Its almost as if you made up this whole block of text. Or maybe what i just did is your definition of toxic ? If so please leave, don't come back.

Yes, you are the reason why Squad lost izs core playerbase.

The "core" playerbase has spent the last 10 years being lolcows on these discussion pages - crying about things they dont understand while coming back anyway.

They havent gone anywhere and wont until their diabetes beats them. Like yourself.
For me, also over 2k, thinks it depend much on the server and community u play. Sure.. we all now that feeling when u play on free weekend events with 50% of the normal pricetag. When 40 % dont know what squad means its scary ♥♥♥♥. Nothing works out.. but this are only waves and many newbies gave early up and say oh its sooo toxic. For me, if some say clear "yo i joined to today, it always a pleasure to help out. I see the Problem in this 2 or 3 ->10 Bucks price tacks. Many old leave at this time maybe never come back but also many cheap buyer will never comeback..it takes sometime until the playerbase settle back to normal. take a long break and see what will be. there are not many alternatives. arma forger ..like all arma game are great in huge battles vs Ki in a communtiy. But here to much trouble with mods and u cant play like squad on the fly.

To be blunt, the Alpha days of Squad had also been rough. Lack of coordination, people with no clue, mostly useless super FOB building etc. etc. So, it is not an entirely new phenomena if we say todays player base is terrible.

That being said, the Storage Site times had been more fun. It was more focused on infantry and the community was dedicated and small enough that lessons learned persisted for a long time. From that PR spirit developed a very good Squad community that made me play the game for 4.5k hours.

But, toxic behaviour, elitism and a lot of ego of individuals played an increasing role on most Squad servers over time. It was just bad for the Squad community overall. We have seen similar things with other games. Its not really Squad specific.

In the end OWI dropped the ball too. They needed to fund development or had been too bored with their own game and needed to change it (for no good reason). Now we have ICO unfun gameplay and the remaining good spirit of the community had been driven out by the masses. Squad, HHL or even Battlefield have little differences in their communities these days. It has nothing to do anymore with the very small but culturally vibrant gaming community that inspired Squad in the first place: Project Reality. And don't tell me slowing down gameplay with ICO was needed for a return to the PR roots. It is nonsense.

Bye, bye Squad and no thanks to today’s Squad devs and CEO.

Squad isn't an airport, you don't need to announce your departure. And btw, Storage Site was on Yeho not Fools Road.

Storage site was on Yeho, long after. Pretty confident talk is expected from someone so overly confident with them self.

In the last week, I have listened to antisemetic ranting, blatant racism, support of the KKK, witness to casual slurs, and heard the most unhinged s***t, I have since a CoD lobby before Obama was president. Your attempt to gaslight a stranger is pathetic.
