Here is a possible fix that i discovered. Sadly it requires an xbox controller. Plug in your Xbox controller and connect your headset to it. Download VB-Audio Cable (https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/) and unzip the package. Download either the 32 or 64 bit one ( I didnt explain this well, you might just want to find a video or tutorial or something). Then open sound settings and open "sound control panel". Set your Headset as "Default Device". Make sure its the Default device by both "Playback" and "Recording/Communications". Then make the VB-Cable your Default communications device. Right click the VB-Cable, click on properties and go to "Listen". Make it listen to your headset or the Default Playback device. Then enable "Listen to this device". Make sure your input device is your Headset. If this helps please let me know, otherwise if it doesnt i can see if i missed something out. I posted this in another discussion but thought i would repost it here.

Edit: Youcould also try al this without the xbox controller, just that my headset only showed up in both the communication and playback areas when connected with the controller. Also, what headset do you use?

#1 Check for windows updates, restart if needed.
#2 disable all other other input and non-needed outputs in device manager
#3 right click on sound icon bottom right >open sound settings > manage sound devices > insure all non-needed devices are disabled
#4 In steam click friends > settings > voice > click on used devices for voice chat (not-auto)
#5 uninstall squad
#6 install squad
#7 launch game
***#8 do not allow to steam to make changes to device ***
#9 allow anti cheat

It uses your default communications device IIRC, so merely setting the microphone as default device may not be enough.

But try those two first, set your microphone of choice as default device and then as default communications device.

Then start the game and check if it works. If not, it's most likely some Windows 10 setting overriding it - do some Google-fu and you should be able to find relevant settings.

If you want to access the old Windows 7 sound manager which Microsoft decided to make an utter pain in the rear to access in Windows 10 - simply press the windows key and type in mmsys.cpl :happy_creep:
