unreal engine 5 has a lot of devs still unaware of how to optimize it while using high ass resolution textures.. so it depends. i would say if it happens, it'll be a very rocky start performance wise

i guess with UE5 Squad will potentially run better, since UE5 allegedly will make much better use of available ressources, but it depends on the implementation i suppose, so it could well even become worse at first.

They were talking about introducing freaking Lumen, which is like software ray tracing.

The pc spec requirement will go way up, and it will run terribly.

OWI don't know how to do scalability, they're too amateur. Years ago the game ran great on a potato, still had 50 a side, multiple vics etc.

Remember the lighting update? All of a sudden everyone needed 8gb VRAM. It'll be like that but worse.

All that and they still don't have anti-aliasing in PiP.

Yeah Lumen is a disaster right away. You cant get more than 60fps with it. Its also pretty useless outside of games using day night cycle, which Squad absolutely doesnt do.

The only reason they do this is to stop bothering making lightmaps, which just means "we are lazy"

Probably but like in the past they going to make sure to add more effects and useless stuff to make sure it runs worse.

""Interesting question. Download both the Squad SDK and Unreal Engine 5.4 and then import one of the game maps, convert all the foliage, trees and static meshes to Nanite and then add Lumen lighting. Tell us the your results.""

Converting it over and just straight up enabling nanites for everything will just crash your pc since no one on a consumer level has so much VRAM.

This game still crashes for a lot of people. Maybe they should look into that before updating the game engine and bringing more issues.

this game is unreal 100^

Exactly right, it's all to reduce pipeline time.

OWI will just hop on the bandwagon because they have no idea, they said themselves in the podcast they don't really have any idea how it will work out.

Like a decade ago EA started using this photorealistic stuff in some games. Like the star wars one and i believe i saw it in battlefield 1 and 5. This stuff ran on my gtx 970 just fine and looked amazing. Odd that it went away and people are using this Unreal stuff that stutters to give us low frame rates (ish)
Maybe Unreal farms bitcoin on your pc better and what EA had didn't.

this is just virtual signaling, squad runs like crap on the older engine, porting to a new platform seems like a recipe for disaster like we've already seen in the past year alone.

100% BF3 still looks great and plays without stutters. We went backwards

Chances are I will probably stop playing the game as my PC will struggle to play with UE5. I doubt my GTX 1070 and I7-8700 can handle the game with them moving to it. I used to be able to run this game on high settings but as time went on it got worse and worse.

Now my game barely runs well on low settings so its going to suck as an early supporter of this game way back in the day to have to stop playing the game that I enjoy very much.

just try The First Descendant or Throne and liberty those are free games and runs on UE 5.3 and see if you can run it.
