Cant seem to play the game smoothly.
Guys i know some in here know a lot about PC's, cause i dont

I got a:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060

AMD Ryzen 5 3500X 6 Core Processor

16 GB RAM

so how does this game lag for me? on most maps the game starts fine i have 80+ FPS constantly until i get into firefights and the game drops to about 35-45 frames. Its really not a great feeling playing the game like this since i really like it but the framdrops annoy the sh** out of me.

Is there a problem with my specs ? Could somone give me tips?

First off: SQUAD just performs pretty bad. It depends a bit on the map too, some are better optimized than others, but generally its a game issue.

They have just crammed a lot into a pretty dated version of the Unreal engine and 100 players per server add a lot of strain as well.

Second: Your system is a bit on the weaker side when it comes to Squad. I played Squad with 4 different systems now and the biggest impact on hardware upgrades for performance in Squad was always the CPU, more specifically the CPU's single thread performance (meaning not overall, but per core/thread).

Afaik the two most demaning processes in Squad have to run on a single thread of the cpu each, making the single thread performance quite important what kind of fps you get in the end. When there is a lot going on around you the load goes up and fps go down.

Your 3500X has a single core performance rating of 2,506 in Passmark. Personally i found to consistently (mostly, depends a bit on the map) get above 60 fps in Squad it needs a single core performance rating around 3500 or better. Mine is slightly below 3500 now and i only drop below 60 on the two worst optimized maps.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?id=3592&cpu=AMD+Ryzen+5+3500X

Your graphics card is totally fine for Squad in 1080p, you will be experiencing CPU bottleneck braking out your system. 16 GB Ram is ok i guess, i would always go fpr 32 GB since its cheap, more is not really bringing any benefits. Also running Squad on fast SSD or M2 drive might help (a little).

So, yeah, Either wait until they upgrade the engine to Unreal 5 (which performs a lot better i hear) or upgrade CPU.

Thanks for this detailed answer, guess ill update the CPU then.

When you want to keep your Socket AM4 Board in use the best pick available would be a Ryzen 5800X i think. Would give you a single thread performance rating of 3,446.

12th gen and upwards intel CPU's go above 4000 now, but that would require building a completely new rig.

np. Keep in mind you will most likely require a bios update for that cpu to work when your mainboard is a bit older, but its not hard to do.

Check compatibility with your mainboard, just to be safe.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D might be a better option because of the bigger L3 cache (especially the V-Cache). I have read that people get an insane performance boost as they switched to this very CPU. But be warned: This CPU has a higher TDP (thermal design power -> energy that transfers into heat) which means that you might need a bigger CPU cooler. So check the maximum TDP value of your current cooler if you want to use that CPU. Other games also might benefit a lot from the 3D CPU because of the cache.

For myself, I use currently a Ryzen 7 5700X as my CPU and the AMD RX 7800 XT as my GPU. I play on native 1440p and I get mostly stable 60 fps (because of v-sync). When v-sync is deactivated I can get around 80 to 90 fps. Sometimes on certain maps (e.g. Black Coast) the game dips below 60 fps. It mostly depends on how much is going on onto the battlefield.

Previously I used a NVIDIA RTX 2070 with the same CPU and the performance was way worse. The game struggled most of the time to render stable 60 fps and dipped mostly below so a GPU and a CPU upgrade might be needed.
I lowered the resolution to 1080p and the resolution scale to 80% or 90% percent with low settings to stablilize on the 60 fps which didn't worked on some maps but mostly.

I for myself hope that they will port the game to Unreal Engine 5 (as they have mentioned in their last Q&A that they currently look into this) and more people will be able to enjoy this game even with less hardware power.

I have been having Lag spikes recently as well. Even with graphics set to low the game will freeze for like a second every minute or so.
Ive never had problems like this until the last 2 updates. I also cap my FPS to 60 and the game runs smooth at 60 but i just have those random freezes that happen if im standing still or moving around.

Specs: RTX 2070 Super - i7-9700K CPU - 32GB RAM.
