Hell let Loose is a more fun videogame whereas squad (44) seems to sit better with milsim players.
Last time i played Squad 44 people ingame were debating which is better and the majority of players agreed that Hell Let Loose was a more fun experience.
I used to like milsim stuff but i've either grown out of it or i can't stand listening to a bunch of wannabe military lads doing a ♥♥♥♥ measuring contest on who can sound the most tacticool.
I'd rather see some action like in HLL or Ground Branch than sit around all day waiting for a fun moment to pop in every now and then.
Squad 44's drop in players since OWI takeover is because they began turning into .... wait for it... SQUAD! No player wants S44 to be WW2 Squad. It was unique and should remain that way.
OWI stated they would not be turning S44 into Squad, and then turned around and gutted the logistics, making logistics squads obsolete, and implementing Squad logistics mechanics.
OWI claims to have heard the outrage, and are reworking (again) the Logistics, which were not at all broken to begin with. OWI decided to attempt fixing something that was not broken, and it backfired in their faces. They also reworked lighting and made it look cartoony and more like Squad. The namechange was pretty stupid, too. Post Scriptum sounds so much better than "sQuAd 44"
I should also add, gameplay-wise, save for the Logistics changes -- which everybody hates -- I still find S44 to be a more enjoyable experience than Squad, primarily -- but not solely -- due to Squad's ICO.
Similar enough for the names to be made the same as well.
It's not like we're comparing minecraft to arma here.
