Squad
Why do people hate the combat overhaul?
Just got back in after a while. This ♥♥♥♥ rules. Short-range combat is so much easier now that you can tell where your bullets are going to hit by looking at your gun. I know there are glitches, but this slaps pretty hard.

They hate it because they never played PR, the official spiritual predecessor of Squad (see here: https://squad.fandom.com/wiki/Project_Reality ). PR was modded to make teamwork and so on the most important aspect of the game. Now, all those Squad players who never experienced PR, are not use to the guns being so incredibly inaccurate if you run ingame for a long time and draining your stamina... They just were shocked by how different the accuracy handles in the ICO.

Since the player numbers are basically where they've been the whole year it doesn't seem that many players really hate the ICO. Or they play Squad regardless which would be kinda schizo.

Either that or many new players came in that pretty exactly offset the loss in players not playing anymore because of ICO.

Personally i think ICO is fine, maybe some fine tuning needed here and there. Especially performance impact of the PIP scopes seems a bit too mich and performance in general is very mediocre. I fear OWI is simply unable to significantly improve performance without moving to Unreal 5 which they so far seemingly don't want to do.

pretty much this, for me as an original PR player the ico update seems like a push in the right direction. squad before ico just always felt to arcadey.

It's not schizo to despise ICO yet still play the game. I did but found it's the only milsim I remotely like. So count my me as numbers that haven't changed. If I could delete ICO from Squad or separate the two, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

It's just comic in it's interpretation of what a trained solder, who does PT on a regular basis and handles weapons often, does when they jog for 10 m and then just casually (no real hurry, it's just life and death) raises the scope to their eye but not too close, maybe arms fully extended so the scope is as far away from their head as possible... then proceeds to violently cough and shake while trying to aim... It's just too idiotic to believe this is considered acceptable.

All the time this game has received updates and people have been asking for optimization, over and over. ICO made the game perform worse, like really a multi percentage drop in framerates worse. It's like they are sabotaging the game and group is cheering them on. It's nuts. And sure, PR is mentioned in a website as a vague reference as to where the idea originated. I'd say the game being how it was for over 3 years might have some preference as to how it was going to play though. Not some idea that we were always going to have some dots to deal with. I never read that the roadmap referred to them ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up guns somewhere down the line.

Yeah i agree it just seems soo clunky and awkward in a very not realistic way. It seems now you went from a full grown man, trained and physically able to control recoil. To a legit toddler. It is for sure not in the right direction this game is suffering the same mindset Dayz and other games have where they are trying to make real life the game. At a certain point the game needs to be fun and some what inclusive to new players. But the more realistic it gets the more tedious the game gets and the more faults begin to shine through

People have also gone to other mods that use the same combat as 5.0. Only reason I haven't uninstalled Squad at this point is I've been debating downloading said mods to still play, because I love this game. But I think I'm done fighting through updates that a lot of people hate, myself included, and watching people I played with almost on a daily basis drop the game entirely.

MEE is worth it, Two servers I play on , DLC and Unnamed, both are good, I lean toward DLC for better ping. Give it a try !

When the game played a very specific way for 2 years then suddenly doesn't now it's generally going to make people dissatisfied. ICO enjoyers are a very vocal minority.

ya i just gets goofy sometimes, like the last time i played. we were defending that one huge mosque and i push though the outer white wall and NO JOKE there a guy standing 10-13m away and i hip-fire an ENTIRE MAG and did hit him and died (couldn't aim because i was running and had the suppression effect). idk anymore, the people are still fun and the core social part is fun but only parts of the update works in urbane areas (not the suppression effect). and im getting tired of not hitting anything, anywhere, anytime, at both short or long range. and even if i don't push than the enemy flanks and pushes and i die, and cant do anything because half the people who play the game don't read "Mic Required". i don't care, i just a fun game and no skins.

I had a similar experience, I was on MEC (I forget the proper faction name) using an iron sight G3 and ran into a brit who was using a rifle with a 4x scope. We were no more than 5ft apart and I was in semi-auto and clicking like mad while ADS and killed him near the end of my mag, he on the other hand didn't touch me once and we probably both went through almost an entire mag during our 5ft fire fight.

Simply put it's just not fun to play anymore, the gun play is too slow and inaccurate.
Here is a guy who you might know who had some words about realism in games recently.

You probably both sprinted and were at zero stamina i guess. Had you moved normally without sprinting you would have easily put him down. Just don't sprint everywhere uncovered, work with your Squad. Have someone cover you when you move. Thats at least how Squad is intended to be played now.

When ppl only have fun running around solo want to be able run and gun everything down on their own they are simply playing the wrong game.

Actually the guy I ran in to was crouched, stationary, behind a wall and I ran, well more like walked, into him. I was just holding my "w" key when I ran into him
