so about the admin power tripping and the community ban list

let's start that i've been bannend only once, in more than 1000 hours, by a automatic bot that tought my grammatical erros (kicked can turn into a racial slur apparently) deserved a permanent ban. the ban was listed the day after by an admin that, guess what, wasn't even aware that was a racial slur. nor was i. anyway.

i started diving into the CBL rabbit hole.

and, to a person with a clean record like me, it's sound the perfect way to allow reddit moderators style people ,into the game. the fact that banning a guy in 2-3 servers will lead to him be banned on 90% of the pubblic servers is just stupid. that system would, theoretically, work if all the admins would posses the same high moral standards and enforce a set of rules shared by all the servers, but admins are not robots and the range of discretionality (AKA, I'LL DO WHAT I WANT BECAUSE I'M IN PRACTICE LEGIBUS SOLUTUS) is abysmal. you see everytime topics about how the admins banning people for... everything, lead to poeple beeing banned on the CBL, and then complaining about the thing here, mostly beeing treated like junk.

OWI is the sole that should held accountable for this. THEY allow this flawed system to exist. and while i think that if you buy a server, you should ban people in THAT server, THAT SHOULD never give you the ability to restrict players on other servers. but not the admins, OWI is responsible, because when the cat is away, the mouses start dancing around. creating and supporting a system like the CBL is just an expense for a company, if they are the ones holding it togheter. but if a third party does that, it's a burden to someone else, while you enjoy the benefits. and this is why OWI at the end allow this to exist, because it's cheap and sorta works... but it also leads to your game beeing kidnapped by a minority of ancient regime wannabe monarchs that rules as they want, giving away prizes and punishments as they please. and ths is just wrong.

Well, technically every server is banning only for that server, of course via the CBL information is shared so servers will ban players who never even played there. In many cases this will bar some really harmful players from playing Squad on many servers, improving the experience, in some cases it will lead to abuse and unjustifed bans.

There should be at least some appeal mechanism via OWI and a limit on the duration of bans. Banning someone forever who maybe threw a tantrum and insulted ppl with, i dunno, 15 or 16 (espc. boys in that age are often a bit unbalanced and try to get attention by any means) might be a mostly mature person just a few months or a year later.

I don't see much harm done by limiting those kinds of bans, if those players heavily misbehave again you can just ban them again.

On the other hand, if someone was spewing discriminating insults on several servers again and again, insulting ppl, teamkilling and generally being an A** i personally would like to see them banned, but not nessarily forever. Ppl always think of themselfes as totally mature and reasonable, regardless how old they are, but everyone past his 30s looking back 5 or 10 years knows thats nonsense.

well my point is that banning who deserves the ban is not the issue. behave like an idiot and you will find out. my issue is the ammount of abuse that the sysem allows. intermediate measures would be better suited than permanent bans but again, the system is like that because OWI wants to save money on moderation and admin work but it's handing out the power to decide to people that sholud not have it. banning a guy from your server is fine, banning that guy from 90% of the servers... no. no regoular joe should have that power.

I brought this issue up with OWI. You have to address the power-tripping admins to unban you. It's rediculous. I was called a LGBT-slurr in a new person friendly potato server for not hearing someone asking me to stop firing the .50 cal and they teamkilled me. I asked them why they did it and they called me an ableist slur. This was a Potato member. I complained and they asked for a recording as if I have the time and effort to do your own admin work FOR YOU.

Repeat this on various servers with varying levels of rules/tolerances for such and you find yourself on the CBL just trying to IMPROVE the community.

Asking for admin help and being told to clear chat and being perma banned from 1RB

Being called a LGBT/ableist slurs on Potato servers and complaining = banned

Rules that are on one server and not another? (Main camping) BANNED

Get your ♥♥♥♥ together before you ban paying customers for their failure of a game.

I address this problem to OWI and they would rather stroke their own ego about being a developer than help anyone.

You're not the authority of what is best, nor are you the authority on who should have "power" as you call it. If servers want to share a ban list, then that's their decision and it has nothing to do with your sense of mrality. You're more than welcome to go play on another server. If you find you're banned from all of them, you're free to roll your own and do it your way.

In other words; If you don't like it, leave or do yourself.
