You think the new infantry mechanics are consistent and logical, but that's not true. Just because they made this improvement, I don't sit there like you and say "Yes, that's right" and applaud. When I first started this game, there were no options other than iron sights. The game has gotten better with updates, but this latest update is unrealistic. Have you ever held a gun in your life? Have you ever fired a gun? All the soldiers in this game are like 10 years old. If you don't have military experience, watch the videos about the Ukraine and Russia war. The soldiers there fire AK-47s with one hand. Guns can recoil. After running you may have a hard time aiming because your heartbeat speeds up, but after setting up a tripod or lying down, it's ridiculous how the gun recoils and shakes as if you were shooting standing up. You can't even understand what you're defending. It hurts the game. This needs to be balanced. When I shoot a guy twice in the chest with a G3, is it realistic that he can still shoot me :) Is it realistic to climb a 30 centimeter long wall like a ladder? Is it normal to die directly while falling from a distance of 1.5 or 2 meters? If we don't say these things, people like you who don't know what they want, who don't know what is what, will ruin this game even more. These things need to be balanced and fixed. I really like most of the improvements, but I really wonder what the developers are referencing when it comes to aiming.
People are in generally favorable to the ICO because it puts the game farther into it's own genre and closer to PR. The deviation and sway is just a part of that. I would not look to old Squad for inspiration, I would look at PR and imagine everything in that game is coming to Squad and that Squad is going to play functionally like PR did with updates visuals and controls.
40% does not equal generally in favor of...
Bollocks numbers. By far not everyone posts a review or even visits this forum. Most are just playing the game and player numbers are basically the same as before. When you compare with the average numbers of players for the current year even slightly higher.
When you make a truly randomized poll with at least 1300 participants among Squad players you could make such a statement, but noone will do that i suppose.
Ingame almost everyone i spoke to about how they like the ICO was in favor.
The game had a free weekend and a sale at the same time as the update. You of course are running into people who like the game while you are playing it, this should be obvious. I have deleted the game, I have 2,500 hours, and I see that sentiment over and over in the forums. The numbers are not ♥♥♥♥, as they are the most recent reviews, something you think would be relevant.
Last man living is a coward.
A truly representative poll has be randomized and of a certain size. Thats what professional pollsters do. When you make a poll on some website where everyone can participate you will often get a heavily skewed result, since those who feel very strongly about the issue will participate a lot while others might not participate at all.
The recent reviews tell me there is a fair amount of players who dislike the ICO, but thats about it. How large that number is in proportion to the playerbase is unknown. I can therefore only look at the number of average players and how it develops and it didn't move much.
So my prelminary conclusion would be that only a (very loud) minority dislikes the ICO. Might be that only a (equally loud) minority really likes them and all the rest just doesn't care that much. Without knowing how many reviews there are and from how many different distinct sources they come (many ppl have multiple steam accounts) they really are just one indicator with very limited actual relevance. More data would be needed, so IF player numbers heavily go down in the coming months that would be another indicator.
