Something of a vertical and horizontal view control axis assignment would also be appreciated, so that I can use the microstick on my warthog throttle. (or trackir support)
But hey, they haven't done anything about this "experimental" feature for years. Instead they have opted to go for fortnite-style gameplay adaptions and dumbing down the game. It's game over for OWI and time to move on to greener pastures.
I went back to Arma III, which had all of this sorted out at release.
I gave up trying to use controller or hotas for flight in this game. Just use WASD and arrow keys prolly the best way to do it.
At some point I did try keyboard and mouse, but using the mouse for the cyclic is twitchy and using the keyboard for the collective really makes me overshoot the mark all the time. I guess that over 30 years of flightsim experience was basically obstructing me from learning this way of controlling a helicopter.
One evening of work and I had this all mapped and working with my Logitech x56 stick & throttle, plus MFG Crosswind rudder. Even in infantry mode, being able to use TrackIR for freelook is a game changer.
The methods described in that reddit post are just a joke to me. I mean, technically they work, but they are a far cry from what I want to see. Using mouse mode has many drawbacks over using 6DoF. I want proper TrackIR support, both as a pilot in choppers to be able to look around frame and cockpit parts as well as a grunt on the ground, shooting and looking around at the same time.
And then the use of joystick gremlin. A piece of software that is windows only, with no linux equivalent and which is finicky to use. It does not really fix all the problems that this game has with joysticks either. If you for some reason have to unplug a joystick, or unplug one by accident, all sticks are no longer recognised. Rescanning is a basic element of many joystick enabled games. I would expect it to be implemented. Joystick Gremlin is not going to fix that.
Arma has had all of this for years (decades even) and I expect this to be in Squad. It is either unwillingness or utter incompetence that has us waiting for a proper implementation of both joysticks and TrackIR.
I use Pimax VR now for my DCS flight sims, and IL2 Sturmovik. Im trying to find my TrackIR5 camera... You should be able use software to take over mouse function. Just enable when you are ready to fly.....
Track IR would be killer for Infantry as well, just like it is in Arma, you can run and look from side to side ,,, its awesome for situational awareness
