Because the game was constantly updated and new content was introduced.
Because we dont want to be looking at the same textures all the time.
We even got a higher version of UE4 and will be getting the game on UE5 at some point.
Look for example mods on the workshop, MEE and such, I was having massive problems running these mods with constant crashes, then I upgraded my PC with higher capacity and faster RAM, and a new CPU and my problems are solved.
The days of releasing a game on a CD/DVD and afterthat only introducing one or two small patches to address minor bugs are over.
Blame Steam's greed for that.
Steam introduced Early access SCAM which allowed developers to launch a "game" that would otherwise be unplayable.
Early Access should be abolished, and game studios will start launching only ready-made polished games, because without Early Access the "no refund" SCAM policy has no value.
And I do not blame SQUAD's studio at all, they are a small niche indie studio, the problem is that this Early Access bs has ruined so many potentially awesome projects.
Tons of abandoned or never truly finished or polished games are out there thanks to Early Access.
In Squad's specific case, may be the game should have remained in Early Access until it got to the point where it is now (UE 4.27) or even UE5. This way people would not complain that much, because "how can you complain when the game is in EA stage and you are not given any guarantees it will be ever finished or polished", as per Steam's retarded Early Access policy....
Bottom line is: Early Access grants Steam HUGE profits, while giving them the excuse not to process refunds and take responsibility.
Early Access is giving SCAM studios and game devs the chance to milk money based on false promised that may never be kept, without holding them accountable for their actions (you cannot get a refund or EA game and you cannot "complain" because of the policy).
Honest studios suffer from this because they do not have the incentive to release a finished game.
Example: Honest studio releases unpolished unfinished game on Steam EA. The game does not get enough sales (according to management morons), then said management morons start firing devs, cutting staff or closing the project altogether.
The ones suffering most are the players of the game.
When I buy a new car that comes with a 3 year warranty, within that 3 year period I will expect that vehicle to run and be serviceable with parts that will continue to allow that vehicle to run. But when a part specific to that car make/model is no longer manufactured just 1 year after me buying the car, it is the responsibility of the dealership to make sure I am serviced to ensure I am not hard done by. This results in a new upgraded part for the car, or if a part is not source-able then a replacement car of equal or new quality is required to be provided as part of that warranty.
Now, Squad does not have a Warranty but it does have a Lifecycle. And that lifecycle will exist up until Squad is not playable by any means in the future. I have paid for the Game, Squad. So will expect that game to work for the duration of the games lifecycle, for me based on what the Vendor/Developer has sold me at the time of the Sale.
So if I bought the game at a time when I own and operated an nVidia 1050 Ti and the card was supported at the time of sale, then I expect that game to continue to work on that card.
Unless OWI is going to offer Customers who bought the game a free hardware upgrade out of their own pocket so that the Customer is not hard done by (lets put that emote money to good use eh!). But I don't expect OWI to do something like that as at this point they don't care anymore.
Automotive manufacturers are obliged by certain laws and regulations to provide parts for their products for a certain time period.
On the other hand, Microsoft is not obliged by law to provide compatibility for DX12 in Win 7, for example.
I hope you understand where you went wrong with your comparison.
It is time to draw a clear line for a reality check vs expectations:
Squad's developers are willing to update their game after the official release, bring new content and improve your's and mine experiences free of charge (you can choose to support them further buy buying the supporter "DLC" if you wish so).
On the other hand they are not obliged by any law to provide you backward compatibility or to stick to certain system requirements.
Actually, if you want to play the game with the old requirements, you can play the old version of the game.
The only thing that is expected of you was to upgrade your system from Win 7 to Win 10 (which is still free, using a Win 7 license key), and may be to upgrade your rig a little bit.
I am sorry that the devs could not optimize the game for a 7 year old budget GPU, and that new mods and content is larger in size and might need more RAM capacity to run smoothly. Games with large, open areas, that need to provide clear graphical experience at the average engagement range, like ARMA, Squad, Red Orchestra and such, will obviously put more load on the system, compared to arcadish Call of Duty where the engagement range is much lower and the level design allows for zoning off and not rendering whole areas of the map.
Don't get me wrong, I want this game to have large player base, but time passes and we need to upgrade our rigs either way.
PC Gaming is a hobby, and part of that hobby is maintaining your equipment to the current standards.
You can get a 2 year old GPU 2nd hand for $150-$200 USD that will run the game just fine. You are probably located in the US, AU, UK where GPUs are significantly cheaper than the rest of the world, and hourly wages are highest.
If you are so poor,(which I doubt) you can stop drinking beer, eating garbage foods or doing any other activity which probably affects your psyche and/or health for couple of months and save up those $$$ for a new card.
@Geebus
I was also having problems with the game (in my case CPU and RAM related) and because wanted to play it I simply upgraded. Not to mention now I have much better performance in other games too....
I want to add, ♥♥♥♥ TAA (f*ck censorship too)
It was an analogy. If you couldn't grasp the point then just be quiet.
Removing shadows is a really bad idea in terms of gameplay fairness, as many before mentioned, in terms of hardware, 1050ti was a Garbage gpu when it was released, people bought it mostly only because of gpu prices in crypto fewer. As someone mentioned some used rx 5700 would be a nice upgrade, especially that game got few overhauls even if its poorly optimized
