Please search "widescreen" from forum for more information but the main thing is Squad does not support widescreen resolutions and probably never will. Best bet is to use windowed mode with standard aspect ratio 16:9.
I'd suggest putting your monitor in Picture In Picture mode if you are having troubles :)
Only reason I write this is to let community know that the support is still not there, as OP was wondering. While different resolutions are selectable from the settings and the game runs, does not mean it is supported. Support was originally planned on the roadmap with the other qol-updates, but was never released.
Referring one of the first threads as people have been arguing about this years:
It appears to be cropped. However it's not unplayable by any means. I still have the same experience with 21:9 if I was on 16:9. You can choose your FOV also. I have mines to 50 I think. It's personal preference. There should be twitch streamers or youtubers out there that can explain it a little better. But if you're looking into getting an ultra-wide and your pc can handle it then I'd say go for it. Unless you're looking for a Sim Rig with multiple screens etc then I'd stick with 16:9 monitors.
