Ultra Wide Support?
Am I tripping or did they add support for ultra-wide monitors in the last update without including it in the patch notes?

No. Still cropped. Millionth time; it's not happening. Even if they knew how to add support for the modern displays(which I don't think they do), the functionality does not provide any financial gains, so it's not happening. All the reskinning (new factions) and gun play features, (and what else) drives over this functionality, because it's easy and fast to develope and/or makes most of the revenue. Fixing bugs is not priority, making money is.

i play on an ultra-wide monitor (3440 x 1440) and its fine. never had a problem

It is not fine. The picture(not the UI), your machine renders, is cropped from top and bottom.

Please search "widescreen" from forum for more information but the main thing is Squad does not support widescreen resolutions and probably never will. Best bet is to use windowed mode with standard aspect ratio 16:9.

bro, youre setup is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up then. I am telling you with over 2k hours in the game, playing on ultrawide, that it is running flawlessly for me. if you dont like 3440 x 1440 resolution, then apparently ultrawide monitors are not for you.

Ultra Wide works just fine, I didn't notice the difference when I switched. I actually prefer Ultra Wide than 16:9. You'll have no problems running Ultra Wide.

Playing on 5440x1440 at 90 FOV in game and it feels like you're wearing glasses, although you get used to it after a while.

I'd suggest putting your monitor in Picture In Picture mode if you are having troubles :)

I play at 5120x1440 with a 120 FOV and it looks alright on my end.

I did not say it didn't run. I said it's not supported and it's not fine. Game does not simply add more picture to the side when using wider resolution, it crops it also. That's why you see less picture at the screen for example if compared 2560 vs 5120 when horizontal resolution is at 1440. Setting FOV to 120 compensates this little but does not work with choppers for example. One cannot see chopper control panels when using widescreen.

Only reason I write this is to let community know that the support is still not there, as OP was wondering. While different resolutions are selectable from the settings and the game runs, does not mean it is supported. Support was originally planned on the roadmap with the other qol-updates, but was never released.

Referring one of the first threads as people have been arguing about this years:

Its very apparent that the top and bottom are just cropped to make it fit

So what is the actual problem with running 21:9 on squad? Haven’t bought a monitor in 5 years and I’m trying to figure out if this is game breaking

It appears to be cropped. However it's not unplayable by any means. I still have the same experience with 21:9 if I was on 16:9. You can choose your FOV also. I have mines to 50 I think. It's personal preference. There should be twitch streamers or youtubers out there that can explain it a little better. But if you're looking into getting an ultra-wide and your pc can handle it then I'd say go for it. Unless you're looking for a Sim Rig with multiple screens etc then I'd stick with 16:9 monitors.
