Have you read the store page or seen any of the games ADs? An Authentic combined arms shooter that bridges the gap between casual and milsim. Thats from the devs. And there are many outlets on the internet that call it MILSIM.
If you want to point at arma 3 as a "milsim", what you are watching on youtube is a bunch of guys getting together on a heavily modded game and literally LARPing combat operations. And its more than likely against bots because PVP basically has to be a war reenactment. So yeah there is no "milsim"
My guess for this thread is that its an attempt to add some stupid casual mechanic and the justification being this game shouldn't be realistic because it doesn't involve you physically putting on a plate carrier and running around your actual house with a gun
I feel like this game has stunted growth, it just keeps getting fatter and fatter, I'm glad the Chinese were added and I'm excited to try, but much of this game should be shaved away so that we're not wasting 50% of the experience hunting for a server and trying to get into combat.
These are my two main gripes, bad character design and separation which is an industry standard, and using silhouettes. This is not being done properly, and it keeps being blanketed with "it's a milsim".
Secondly, the game is too bloated. If you compare Squad to CS 1.6, I can be in a server and playing within seconds. The ramp up time for Squad is not acceptable, there is a total lack of design and the process sucks overall and always leaves people behind. The game of Squad should commence in an entirely new, faster, more streamlined way.

Somebody does.
To make a persuasive argument first you must define the central terms of your argument. What is a MilSim? What is Squad missing that makes it other than MilSim? What is Squad then if not a MilSim? What is a more ideal example of a MilSim?
Damn all that criteria on the wikipedia page on what makes a video game into a milsim sounds quite familiar... KEK. They seem to confuse borderline LARPing on modded arma 3 to be what a milsim is, despite the fact that you can do the same thing on squad
That's one thing that I've never quite got, milsim is a genre but basically the only agreed upon game that fits is (at least outside of the literal 'military simulations') Arma.
If we were to say that the gamey-er aspects of Squad revoke it's ability to be a milsim, do we just forget that those gamey tend to do a better job of organically creating realistic scenarios than, arguably, the scripted PVE stuff in ARMA?
Milsim just kinda seems like one of those, "you'll know it when you see it" kinda things. There really isn't a definition. Maybe it'd be better to define where it is on the larp scale. If Arma is at the "better memorize every brevity term" level then Squad is at the "saying 'copy' over VOIP isn't too out of place" level.
What cracked me up how killertowfoo posted the wiki page for milsim and squad meets every single criteria of what considers a game to be a milsim minus hunger and thirst, which im pretty sure most arma clans disable anyways lmao. Aswell as the other page which lists Verdun, Rising storm 2, arma, squad, and insurgency as milsims.
Many of these people would be very surprised to see how lenient the actual general definition of the word "MILSIM" is.
From what ive seen, People either
a) ♥♥♥♥ on squad and say it its casual because they think they are hard for playing in a milsim clan on arma
or...
b) are from casual shooters and want some casual mechanic added or immersive mechanic such as "clunky movement" removed, with the excuse of "this game isnt a [drewski roleplay video] and therefore doesnt need to be authentic"
(replaced the word milsim because we all know thats what they actually mean)
Which is why ive always been saying, if you were to get a max server of random people on any vanilla modern based shooter game, squad would be the most authentic and realistic depiction of a battle. People take that and say its arcadey because you respawn and revive people...
Me personally if I had to describe what milsim meant, I'd say it's a clumsy feeling game that takes place in an uncanny valley.
The concept of a milsim is extremely stupid, a video game needs an art direction, this game doesn't have one. Why? It pretends it job is to mimic the banality of reality?
A good video game abstracts from reality, it doesn't emulate it. Squad is becoming too literal, there isn't enough art, it's just a copy of life.
If it's a copy of life then it is milsim.
