Squad

For FPS issues, try this!
Note: Try the -dx12 fix before clearing cache. You might not need to clear it. If it doesn't work, clear the game cache like I explained down below as well.

Take a picture of your mouse sense and audio options along with keybinds, then look at bottom of options menu on squad, and press clear cache. (Take pictures of settings because the reset). It will reset those settings and fix bugs from previous updates. Afterwards, you right click Squad on steam, click properties, and then you will see at the bottom "launch options.
Type in -dx12 EXACTLY as I wrote it there with the - included.

I went from dropping to 45-50 in most areas on medium and low graphics, to suddenly having 100+ fps on ultra graphics, and in the most demanding areas in-game, I still only drop down to 80-90.

I was super surprised how well this worked, so please try it for yourselves and tell me how it went.

I have a 3080 card with good cpu, so it's not your pc's that caused the fps issues.

The -dx12 fix in launch options was the one that REALLY helped me out. Might not work on 1080 cards and older, but it's worth a try:)

5800X3D, RTX 3070, 16GB 3200MHz, 1440P, 144Hz.

I have only recently started playing Squad. One thing is clear: the CPU is crucial in this game. Most of the time max FPS (144), no major frame drops.

I have many settings on Epic or turned on. What I have changed, for different reasons:

- Texture quality: High (I am not satisfied with the AA quality on Epic)
- AA Samples: 8 + Nvidia sharpening (personal preference)
- Contact Shadows: off (too many shadows are rather disadvantageous in such a game)
- SSAO: off (to avoid a noticable performance drop when scoping)
- Post Processing Quality: low (slight performance boost, no significant quality loss)
- Lens Flares: off
- Tesselation: mostly on, not always (causing a significant lower frame rate on a few maps)

- DirectX12 via command line (see previous post): seems to bring a certain performance boost (only tested today), like in other games (for example, Hell Let Loose), but especially at the beginning of a battle there can be some micro stutters and you can see glitches from time to time - so far I noticed flying bushes (1x) and rainbow colors during a tank explosion (1x). ;-)

Edited: when DX12 is enabled, it can happen that you suddenly see nothing because a distorted wall of pixels appears just in front of you. Therefore, I cannot fully recommend DX12, at least not at the moment.

With the 5800X3D, no CPU-heavy and/or unoptimised game is a problem anymore.

5800x3D is the best CPU on the market right now though and it is quite expensive. I am thinking of buying one myself but it is a lot of money for a CPU. ^^

-dx12 did nothing or very little to me btw, still at roughly 30 fps when all players join, which is kind of unplayable in a fps game. I use an 1800x though which I know is bad but this game makes it uber bad, other games are playable. I get over 100 fps on an empty server but the fps goes down the drain when people join.

I got 5800 X it work fine but the 3D version have 64 L3 that is crazy

it gave me about 5fps, in full servers i run the game in about 30-50fps ish, on servers with 60 pop around, i get around 60-80fps

i5 6400 2.7, overclocked to 3.5ghz
12gb ddr3 1600mhz
gtx 1060 6gb

Your CPU is kinda bottlenecking your game tho. It barely meets the minimum recommended specs, and 1060 barely meets recommended specs, and then you take in effect that all "system requirements" for games have to be taken with a grain of salt, seeing as it's never correct :/

But hey, happy you could get 5 more FPS :) Every increase helps

this game is simply poorly optimized..

i always thaught the game requires a strong CPU, but i was wrong... i just upgraded to i9 newest generation and it did nothing compared to my old i7 8700k...

im also running it on a RTX 3090 and i can be happy to get 60 fps at ultra settings 4k... yes its 4k...

same for hell let lose, all these unreal engine MP shooters does not really work or scale on highend hardware... using -dx12 parameters fix a lot, but its still room for improvement...

Maybe you did not make a big upgrade then? i9 does not automatically mean a massive boost in performance compared to i7. i7 10700k and i9 10900k as an example has roughly the same performance in gaming, i9 is a little better. 5800x3D is the newest on the market and it is a beast, only i9-12900K can compete with it and it is VERY expensive.

Your GPU does not really matter for fps if it is strong enough to render the basic graphics of the game. It is the CPU that bottlenecks in these kind of games when it has to read and calculate information on a massive scale with 100 players running around.

Yes they could probably optimize the game better but they would probably have done it long ago if it was an easy fix?

I always have my RTSS overlay on in this game for monitoring purposes and my i5 10400F is generally around 50% overall usage with a framerate target cap of 70FPS (I have a 75hz freesync monitor). The GPU is an RX 570 4GB. Weak? Sure. However the game suffers from low framerate even while both the CPU and GPU is underutilized and from experience that is a dead giveaway of unoptimization.

Trust me, i did a great upgrade... did i say that a highed CPU automaticly get you tons of FPS? No, i just quoted the guy who said Squad requires a strong CPU and thats literally wrong.. i just said that i now have a i9 12900k and quad still runs like ♥♥♥♥, even with a rtx 3090.. so there was literally no difference between the old i 7 from 2017 and the new i9 12900k.

i dont know why you quote me but it seems like some people feel offended when they see others can afford expansive hardware... there is no need to teach me about prices or what is a good upgrade or not..

squad is not optimized for highend hardware, there is nothing much left to say...

Of course, a powerful CPU is crucial, especially in this game and in many others as well. However, there are several other important factors. And one factor seems to be the extra cache that the 5800X3D has (this can be observed in many games - I already pointed out EFT in another post, where I get almost double the framerate on some maps compared to a 3700X). That they place little emphasis on optimisation and the game does not run smoothly with an i9 12900k and RTX 3090 is of course a bitter disappointment - there is absolutely no disagreement about that. The lack of extensive optimisation unfortunately seems to be a common problem in many games these days.
gtx 1660ti, i5 9400f I had fps around 35 most of the time in a server with 100 players. Now about 45
