My suggestion would be to try the following.
1) Delete a game or free up at least 50gbs of space on the same drive as Squad. This should hopefully be enough. If not then proceed with...
2) Validate game files through Steam settings (specifically properties of Squad itself on the Steam Launcher) and finally
3) Access the actual Squad files downloaded on to your computer via properties again, select CONTENT, then SELECT movies. From there, you should see the opening cinematics, which you can disable by simply renaming them.
Since doing this I've had no further issues and the game appears to be smoothly operating. Here is also the link to the reddit thread mentioned above.
