Squad
Frame drops every time I encounter an enemy
I've asked on different forums about my setup and what I am lacking. Everyone online has said my setup is more than sufficient. I regularly get 60 frame drops every time I encounter an enemy. Literally right when I am ADS and ready to shoot and click LMB, BOOM, 60 frame drops. OOPS now I'm dead. It literally makes the game unplayable.

I know my setup isn't god tier, but it's not awful either.

CPU: Ryzen 3 3300x
GPU: Radeon RX 580 8gb
RAM: 16gb
SSD: Kingston 120gb

What can I do to improve my performance? I don't care about all the stupid gimmick effects like motion blur and all that crap. I turn everything on low. I just want to get the 144fps that my monitor is capable of, or at the very least, no get 60 frame drops every time I encounter an enemy.

I get rather crippling stutter on some maps when I aim down sights, leading me to lag out and get shot up every time in close-range fights. Every update we've seen the developers add more clutter to the map like more vegetation, buildings, vehicle carcasses. I really don't think any more enhancements need to be made to the maps until they can address optimization. Gorodok looks like a damned jungle in some areas.

When you ads more stuff renders in and it can make it stutter on some maps. if you are getting fps drops when you fire its probably the new muzzle flashes.

If you are already on all low settings you probably cant do anything about it. I hope they updated the recommend requirements on the store because the old ones are not at all accurate anymore after the lighting update and new gun effects.

The game is from 2015 and folks cant run it, developers add ♥♥♥♥ without optimizing it for 2015 standards.
Have you guys tried updating your drivers? It works..

driver updates are mostly for the newest games. there is almost no performance gains updating em exept maybe you get around issues like game not launching etc.

OP what you're describing used to happen pretty much every single time when I played EFT (different engine though) and I had figured out that it was my CPU causing it. Not suggesting that is your problem. I have been through two more PCs since then it hasn't happened. I'm running Squad maxed out and it's smooth as butter. A constant 144 FPS is probably not going to happen with that PC even with it all on low, currently Squad does have some performance issues.

What was your CPU? Did you upgrade it?

i7-4790. Upgraded to a i7-8700 then i9-10900KF, with the latter two it stopped.

I have the same issue, this only happened with the last two updates. I don't think it's the hardware, they are doing a pretty bad job at optimization.

I have the same exact problem. Whether I run squad on the lowest settings or the highest, everything runs fine untill I aim down the scope.

my exact issue. Game runs 80-90fps, as soon as you scope in, drops down to 18-33 fps. It's ridiculous, bring back the old scopes.

I wish the developers of this game worked on what mattered, like extensive performance improvements, or even an overhaul of vehicle handling because the small logi trucks and technicals are dog water.
Anyway, OP, I put my settings down to minimum in almost every option, those dips in FPS when you look down a PiP scope just aren't worth it.

Your CPU has a rather weak single thread rating: 2674
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Ryzen+3+3300X&id=3716

To run Squad well i would recommennd a CPU with a single thread rating of 3000 at least, better 3500. Unfortunately Squads Engine has to put most of its load into just two processes that cannot be split (or at least OWI cannot), so single thread performance will almost always be the performance bottleneck.

That being said performance should be consistently bad, sudden huge drops should not happen. Have you tried clearing the games cache (ingame in the options) and maybe re-validate files via steam ?

Thats not normal, sure, fps go down a little when scoping (was the same before ICO btw), but thats too much, i don't have anywhere near that huge a drop.
