Squad
secondary sights
does anyone know, are they planned to be implemented? so you can switch between optics and secondary sights like in Tarkov. because they're just there, but you can't use them! on ACOG, SUSAT and that canadian one. also, even if optics does not have any secondary sights (like Russian PSO) you can just rotate rifle a little bit and look along the barrel, so you'll have general idea where you pointing your rifle. of course, I don't want it to be super accurate to not break game balance completely, but still better then just hip-firing all the time when contact distance shorter then 15 meters (which can be done pretty accurately by experienced players anyway).

When real life military use red dot on 5,56 for 0-300m. I hope they dont implement this because its not how reality work. COD or insert other games are not MilSims. I rather they spend their dev time on stuff that real military actually does instead of "gun fetish" stuff tbh.

I'd love to see this +1

well, maybe IRL you'll be able to see your target from 300m trough red dot, but in this game you can't. or maybe you can, but hit your target - no chance other then luck. and there's no "gun fetish" here, just ability to use secondary sights, that are already in the game.

I could just as easily see the developers adding this in at some point in the future as I could see them not adding it in. I guess that on one hand it kinda goes against the whole idea for why they are adding in PIP scopes. You can't really give people a reason to pick a red dot over a magnified optic when you could just get one that has both.

There's been an uptick in higher speed units using magnified optics with an RMR or similar style red dot, either mounted on top of the ACOG or offset mounted. So it isn't out of the realm of reality at all.

never used or seen a red dot in my life. the standard issue optic for just about any powerful military is the 4x scopes on all the rifles in this game. the ACOG specifically was designed to shoot with both eyes open. when clearing a building, there is no need to bring the rifle to your face and aim 90% of the time. you quite literally just shoulder, point the barrel in the direction of your target, shoot and youll hit it every time. 1x red dots are kind of pointless in the eyes of the military when you can just point your barrel and hit anything in a building or within 25m, and then just ice people who are further than that using the 4x. its why I like squad over other milsims like arma, because it doesnt just suck off special forces.

I've done this at the range before, but I feel like it doesn't translate well into a video game. You don't have the hand/eye coordination, depth perception, or physical weapon that makes this kind of shooting possible.

most shooters make "hip firing" highly unreliable and innaccurate for some reason. but in squad, ive found that its very consistent. just try to position the target as close to the middle of your screen as possible and youll hit it no problem, even while leaning. when firing 4 or 5 shots youll still hit most of them. this is done within give or take 5-20m though of course

Comment regarding sights - since ACOGs are standard issue I think that the only real reason to use an unmagnified sight in regular service is to give unmagnified night vision. Not many people like using red dot sights in SQUAD as far as I can tell, the only exceptions are when the magnified sights are so difficult to use (ie blocking out where the bullet drops off) that you almost always want to use iron sights instead.

Where and how are red dot sights useful when one could always just use irons (lower weight) or magnified sights?

its extremely difficult to aim down sights with night vision on, even with iron sights. so you pretty much use an infared lazer on your rifle, then point and shoot while holding the rifle tightly. even accurately from the hip. The closest thing ive ever really seen to a 1x red dot was on an m203
