That said, my thoughts on this are fairly similar to my thoughts on the open topped, turreted vehicles. Often people get way too close to the fighting with these vehicles then get frustrated that they were easily shot out. In a sense, range is your armor. As you get further away from the enemy that might be shooting you, it becomes much harder to effectively snipe a guy out of the vehicle. Though it also works the other way around. As with a lot of things in this game that many folks believe to be underpowered, it really comes down to how they are using them.
It might not be much, but I found much more success using the SPG-9 technicals when I would shoot at enemy armor from much further ranges then when I would try to engage them from up close. This kind of thinking can easily be applied to almost any of the vehicles. Try finding that sweet spot between range and how accurate your shots are.
